A guy at G8 forum put some straight pipes on his G8 GT and it sounds great. The car is just way too quiet in stock form, and an axleback set of mufflers is over $500. I got a quote from a local muffler shop for about $200 installed with tips, and I'm seriously thinking of having them put on mine. The stock mufflers and tips unbolt at the rear axle, so I can easily install the stock mufflers if it's too loud. Here's a video of how the car sounds with them on there.

I still love the sound of this exhaust;
http://www.jhp.com.au/pontiac_g8_exhaust_systems.php

I am a noob to the G8 scene, but I was just wondering if you guys have heard about JHP? Granted they are in Austraila and their parts cost an arm, a leg, and your first born, but they make some nice stuff!!

That sounds pretty nice Don, I think it would be a great addition to the car. And give you that extra kick that you are looking for. I haven't heard one in stock form, but I will admit that did sound sweet, got to love those V8's.......

but it would look weird having the empty exhaust cutouts in the bumper and its kinda lame to just bolt up tips when they really don't do anything.

trucks can go both ways as far as in concerned, but that's because they don't have cutouts.

Did anybody else notice this thing torquing while they were revving it, even at slow increase it does "the torque jig", as I call it. DAMN!

The only problem with doing an exhaust on the G8 is that it sounds like crap and drones at speed due to DOD. IMO the best set up is LTH X pipe into the stock Axle back. The idle will be quite but give it gas and it sounds great.

JHP does nothing but rip people off. Almost everyting the sell can be had at half the price from diffrent people. AUD is so low right now it is cheaper to buy stuff from OZ then it is from here. They want you to think they are shipping from Austraila but they are not. They have all of their stuff in LA. They also try to pass some stuff off as OEM when its not.

All you will see are two large polished tips like on the 05-06 GTO when I do this. :mrgreen:

That's why the G8 is so fast, with all that torque and the 6-speed trans, it pulls like a freight train. Now that I have the new Eagle GT tires on my car, it just hooks up and it's gone!

There's a another muffler under the car with dual inlets & dual outlets that's used as a resonator.

So it seems that a few other G8 owners did the straight pipe mod and it drones terribly inside the car. I'm sure a lot has to do with the cylinder deactivation mode, which is why the G8 has such a quiet exhaust sound. I plan on getting a tuned ECM and have the DOD turned off, so I might do the straight pipe mod then.

It works good on the highway when the RPM's are higher, but in the city when the RPM's are lower it feels like the motor is lugging. So I put the trans shifter in full manual mode and that shuts off the DOD.

Don, is there any room under the car for an electric cutout? That will give you that sound when you want it.

I would need 2 cutouts, so that might get kind of expensive. I don't know if there's enough room under there, I haven't crawled under the car yet.

I just bought the Pypes axle back system with stainless mufflers & tips for $239 with free shipping. Here's a video of them on a G8:

http://www.g8board.com/forums/showthrea ... ight=pypes

Here's the website I bought them from, but they won't ship out until the end of Feb.
