Ok ive talked to the supercharged guys and have come to the conclusion that it would be to much effort to try and go supercharged what with switching so many engine parts if not the whole thing along with the computers, would i have to do all that with a turbo set up, and how much would it cost to turbo my 06 base, are there any helpful links i can go about reading? thanks

All you do is bolt it on.... more or less.

You can spend anywhere from 2K (used) to 5K new. I am positive that people will come in here and tell you it will cost 10k and you need a tranny up front. I run 15psi and have fun with it on a stock N/A trans for the last 8 months since being put together. Also rocking 125K as well. Not saying it will last forever, but not a necessity right up front.

Ask away if you have more questions. I believe we have at least 3 2004+ turbo GP's on this site.

You can order a ZZP kit or a Cartuning kit. I can personally vouch for the ZZP kits.

The kit will replace the down pipe, nothing further back so it doesn't make a difference single or dual exhaust.

You would order the kit online and have it shipped to the shop of your choosing. ZZP has a list of recommended installers through out the country, so you may be able to find someone close on there. If you are seriously interested you could call ZZP and ask to talk to Turbo Tim and he can walk you through everything you will need.

As for the performance increase. Stock N/A cars put down somewhere in the 160-170 WHP range. After adding the turbo kit you would be in the low 300's without any other modifications. A couple other mods and you could be looking at 350+. Stock 1/4 times for a N/A are in the 15.8-16.0 range and with just a bolt on setup you looking at low 13's. I am shooting for mid 12's with my mods.

Seeing this kinda makes me wish I saved my money and gone turbo... Not to hijack a thread here, but can you run a supercharger and turbo it? And does it need to be intercooled? I was only about 500 dollars short of a turbo so I am kinda wishing now I saved my money from the top swap and cam...

You can run a supercharger and a turbo at the same time. That is called twin charging. I would run intercooled if turbo or twin charged.

DEFINITELY intercool that bad boy....and SCAN SCAN SCAN for KR!! All the meth/alky and intercooling in the world cant take away KR, you gotta tune the car properly to get rid of it. KR is more of a problem with a turbo'd GP because a turbo makes significantly more psi of boost than a stock M90 is capable of producing so you gotta tune the car to be able to handle that kind of power and stress on the engine internals.

You can spend $5000 and have someone else do the install for you but in my honest opinion there isnt anything "bolt on" about a turbo project.....maybe the actual parts themselves but the rest is tuning and preparing the vehicle to handle that power and not blow the engine

Jarad: Like Vic said, its called twin-charging. They basically keep the supercharger housing bolted to the engine but they remove the guts of the supercharger(rotors, snout, etc.) and hook up the charge pipe of the turbo kit to the intake side of the supercharger and bolt up a blockoff plate to the other side of the supercharger(the part where the snout would normally be)Image

My turbo setup was bolt on and I am still running the tune that Turbo Tim sent me. I want to have it tuned to lean it out for more power, but have not had the time.

15psi with no KR and shocking every car that has got next to me to run so far.

thats what I get for assuming  I figured you had some sort of a tune set up, just wasnt sure....for some reason it sounded like you were still running a stock PCM. reading comprehension>me. lol. but damn, 15 psi and no troubles AND still a stock trans with 100k+ miles on it....very nice Vic, what are you some kind of over-achiever? ;-)

If you're in the market for a turbo... I have a kit for sale.. PM me if you are seriously interested. It's used, and priced where it should be. Cheers.

I'll just call it lucky. This will not last and I have plans for a trans, but hopefully not until next year. Then I will be running slicks and skinnies. HELL YA

Thank you so much for the info. Is their any benefit to having the supercharger housing over the N/A ? I see the block off plate and if they remove the guts does it really add any benefit other than looking cool haha?

I think the l26 upper is the best, but if you have a blower then you can stick with that. L26 looks cleaner and has a better transition IMO

Twin charging is when you leave the supercharger intact and run both super charger and turbo.

Correct. I never even noticed him posting that....

Twin charging is keeping the supercharger together and then running the turbo as well. For some reason it doesn't seem too common and I am not positive why. Some people say it is harder to tune for that setup, but if I had a blower to start I would have gone twin charged for the wow factor.

It's probably because the super charger will make the boost come on even faster and harder on the low end,but the rotors in the charger will present a restriction to flow and hence create more heat as the boost level rises out of the turbo.
This is why super's tend to be less efficient at higher boost levels than a turbo [choke flow limitations]....the blunt ends of those rotors just thrash the incoming air too much creating heat.
This what I was hoping to arrive at on the thread I started in the S/C'ing section on improving the stock super charger.
We *never quite* got there.
If you could take care of that problem, you *might* see a lot less guys going turbo.
It can be done.
