There has yet to be a single trans failure due to heat reasons. Both ZZP and TEP say the same thing. If your worried about cooling get the trans heat sink. I know for a fact that works amazingly.

Also how loud is the open wastegate dump? How loud when both the cutout is open and the open dumb is bypassing?

With the new build I'm doing open dump on both the WG and the DP.

It is pretty loud when the wastegate alone opens up, but very loud with both. Sounds awesome with the cutout open, I've had a few good comments on the sound of it so far.

Not the best quality, as it was taken with my Fuji 8100. I really need to invest in a digital camcorder. As you can tell it has a nice idle to it with the cutout open. Very lopey (sp?) even thought it is just a rocker car.

I will get some rolling vids when I get a camera man :)

No point in painting the IC for the "stealth look".
That turbo 'ought to rip with that combo.
Have fun.

Dave I just had to say I've had this thread bookmarked since day 1 and it's a great build, glad to see you got her running. Your car is by far my favorite 04'+, everything you've done I wanted to do on mine gave me a lot of my ideas. This turbo build really did it, and you did it so quickly too gotta say I'm impressed, keep up the awesome work man!

410whp on that size turbo at 15psi seems a little high. People with an ST3 cam, pt-61 and 18psi are making 430ish so that number seems high. However I hate to say this but Plog, rockers, and cutout do not come close to a good size turbo cam. Cutout and Plog help with spooling however.

I have been researching this turbo for awhile now and it looks like the compressor chart looks to be pretty strong and some guys in the import world recommend this turbo as another option for the GT3071R for a lot less cost.

Also on quite a few sites I have found this quote. Granted this was tested on an integra...
"In comparison tests, this little giant has already smacked the famous Garrett T67 compressor wheel right in the mouth producing more peak horsepower and spooling faster. The quicker spool of the S200 graph make a wider torque area, thus having a much more streetable or "stronger" power band! The most dramatic part of the S200 toppling the old T67 wheel is that it comfortably ran higher boost than the T67! When the test came to a close on the little integra which both turbo's were tested on, the S200 produced 100 more horsepower and 80 foot lbs of torque and also made that power in a more useable fashion."

Looks like at 15 PSI or so the turbo will flow around 30 lb/min.

Does anyone have a compressor flow chart for a T66 or 67 wheel?

I thought I would post up some of the areas and topics that I thought would help others during an install. Still need to get a couple Tbolt clamps to finish the install.

Engine engine shot
*now with copper vacuum lines throughout*
Image

As you can see the ZZP kit will come with an adapter for the MAP sensor. This will allow you to pull all of your vacuum lines from this location and really makes for a clean install. In this picture I still need to tee into the copper and make a drop for the MAP sensor right at the adapter, but ran out of time today.
Image
Image

In these pics you can see the vacuum setup running off of the rear of the MAP adapter. In my case this runs into a tee with one side going to the inlet of the boost controller and the other side of the tee running into the bottom port of the wastegate. You will now run a line from the output side of the boost controller into the top port on the wastegate.
Image
Image

You can see the dump tube located off of the passenger side of the wastegate in this picture. On the ZZP Z3 kit your wastegate is installed onto a v band flange welded to the rear exhaust manifold cap. Your dump will then exit straight down to the ground right next to the TOG DP.
In a Z7 kit you will have a more complex and larger downpipe that will have the wastegate dump back into the exhaust. I have read the the 2.5" downpipe on a Z3 kit flows well because of the excess exhaust dumping to the ground rather than back into the downpipe further down stream

As you can see in the third pic, the downpipe off the turbo is a v flange for easy hook up. I needed to remove the engine mounts to get enough room to squeeze the pipe into place. After getting into place it is a tight fit around the rear valve cover and the brake booster, but it doesn't make and rattles that I have heard yet.
Image
Image
Image

The best spot I found for the PCM is just below the intercooler piping. Mine is in a tray from the Wbody store. Doesn't fit for shit in the tray, but better than nothing.
Image

The front side of the vacuum adapter runs across the engine and comes to a tee where the blow off valve gets a feed along with the boost gauge. This pic also shows the LT1 MAF needed for the install along with the MAF adapter plug. The port that is on the top of the intake behind the TB that went into the coupler just in front of the TB is now capped.

I see that ZZP added $165 for us 04 people... whats that about!??! They didn't have it before, I'm assuming your the first 04 GP with the Z3 then. Did you run into any issues with ZZP ?

A supercharger is looking much more simple to install now...lol

As far as I know I am the first 04+ with the kit. Tim emailed me before the kit was sent out and told me about the extra stuff I would need.
* LT1 MAF sensor($75)
* MAF adapter plug($15)
* modify the charge tube ($20)
* MAF to TB coupler ($20)
* 2 T bolt clamps ($8)
* 4 fuel rail spacers ($2)
* Vacuum hose adapter fitting ($20)
I guess they added it to the site to make it smoother for anyone with an 04 in the future.

I honestly thought it was a breeze to do the install and had no problems other than f*c*i*g up two plug wires. I emailed Tim telling him about two of my boots coming off and he shipped them free of charge. I have nothing but great things to say about the quality and customer service.

My plans are up in the air since I don't have the spending cash yet. Maybe by next summer I should have the cash. I've been thinking of getting heads, rocker, and tranny first. Then I'll go for the turbo! XD

Have you thought about getting a turbo blanket?

I originally wanted to get one, but my brother in law said it was a no-no and could cause turbo oil overheating and failure. he has been into fast turbo cars for about 15 years so I listen. :)
I may add some anti heat material , but no heat related problems as of yet.

Actually it's an excellent idea.
It's all in how you install it.
Cover the exhaust housing only.
Don't cover the feed line or the center section.
That'll help keep the oil feed cooler than no blanket at all and will keep the surrounding components cool as well.

I dont think that is how a blanket works. A blanket keeps the heat trapped more than anything else, therefore it will cause the center section of the turbo to run hotter.

A blanket might work for not melting your wiring or hood, but it doesn't remove heat from the turbo.

I'm not talking about removing heat.
I'm talking about *isolating* it from the rest of the sensitive parts.
Keeping the heat in the exhaust housing wil help spool.
Keeping it off the the feed line and center section [radiated heat] will help the center section run cooler and last longer.

Another option would to get a jet coat, but the blanket does a better job for the same price.
