After saving and saving I have finally came to the point where I can turbo and cam my grand prix. Im starting from scratch so i might be missing a couple things and may ask stupid questions - so I need the help to make sure I have everything. Looking to make 400 to 450hp at first then work my way up to the 550 mark. I am attempting to keep this a daily driver but a sleeper.

With Smalls help this is the build I came up with.

Car - 2004 Grand Prix GT
Engine - L26 - 148k miles - 180 T-stat, FWI Intake, Custom Exhaust
Trans - 4t65e - Will be going to Dave at TEP for Race Build once the Engine build is configured

Turbo Build
Using Factory Heads
Z7 Kit with intercooler
65 lbs Fuel Injectors - ( looking for a upgraded fuel pump ?)
Stattama Turbo #3 - ( Curious, can this be used without a turbo temporarily for test runs ? )
Rollmaster double timing chain
130lb valve springs and accessories
New rockers and Rods 1.6 Ratio - ( Would like to continue using the stock but not sure if this is possible? )
PRJ Wires
Spark Plugs - ( Not sure the Spark Plugs I need to run? )

Add:
GM 85mm MAF
ZZP HV3

Looks like a good list to me.

You will need a 85mm MAF and adapter plug.
You don't need the new rockers if you don't want them, as stockers are fine.
103 or even 104 plugs. I use both sometimes as I get more love out of the 104's, and get no knock at 15psi on either of them.

Could I run the cam without the turbo for testing or will that be a issue? As for the 85mm MAF will the GM 85mm Maf work or is a aftermarket a better option?

You can run the cam without the turbo. I can't see how that would cause a issue.

I am using the GM 85MM from ZZP

I knew I was forgetting something lol

Also what gauges would you recommend having? Currently im going to use a Aeroforce, Air/Fuel Ratio, and Boost. The other three I have been debating on is the Fuel Pressure, Exhaust Temp, Oil Pressure.

i'd go with oil pressure and fuel pressure myself. a pyrometer is only for a/f tuning isn't it? your wideband has that covered anyway

Correct, no need really for a pyro when you have a wideband. And IMHO a wideband is 100% needed on a turbo car.

450whp is the max you can go with the current available tranny chain unfortunately. To go any higher, I'll need the gm 1" chain.

No. The 1" chain will be worry free as something else would break in the trans before the chain does but that doesn't mean you can't use something else if you want more than 450whp.

There are plenty of guys out there running 7/8" chains and are making 500+ whp. Yes they stretch over time and some replace them every so many years but they do work.

I would HIGHLY recommend going with a 3" downpipe right from the start. You will be leaving alot on the table by staying with a 2.5" downpipe, especially if you are looking to make 500+whp.

Another thing about the MAF, the consensus is to go with an LT1 75mm MAF, it's metal and will not crack like the plastic ones could under high boost levels.

You can run that cam just fine without any turbo, it just will not have great performance without any boost behind it.

Get the PRJ drop in fuel pump upgrade as well while you're at it. He has it listed on his site, Racetronix/Walbro combo.

Use the stock rockers and pushrods, just new OEM tty rocker bolts.

Another good investment would be to get new GM headgaskets and ARP studs while you are down that far, even with stock heads. It would suck for all that work to go out the window because a head bolt lifts and blows out the gasket. New GM gaskets are great and ARP headstuds are necessary for your 550 goals.

I only say to do it now because if you do do it now, you'll never have to tear into the motor again, which will save you the money of buying new gaskets and downtime. These mods will get you close to your 450 goals now and simply bolting on a bigger turbo will get you the rest of the way without any internal changes.

sweet build. and r.s. hutchinson is right. 7/8 chain is basically the only option for your tranny. more people break 15/16 chains. a buttload of highly modded guys use 7/8 chains with good results. that's not to say they're invincible, just a better chain
