well i've been thinking lately about not doing these little bu!!sh!t mods and started a savings for a turbo build but i need some advice to get started i have a 07 l26 current mods are 180 tstat, open cone and overkilled tune. to put it easier i would like to start with a basic kit then move up on parts, i will be doing the install myself and would also like a little 411 on turbo's with our cars, thanks to all for the advice.

Victor smalls will probly have the most helpfull info for you allthough I am sure others will be all over this.

How quick or powerfull are you wanting to be? How judy money? Not to say don't do it just if your not looking for toooo much. A decent sc build can be pretty potent.

If it was the chain, I think there was a defect with it to let go with that low of a wheel horsepower (not saying your car was weak but I would expect A LOT more power before it would let go and these chains will usually stretch quite a bit before they break).

from the milestone blew his tranny thread

4340 input shaft, raybestos clutches, 3.29 gear set, hardened pump shaft, hardened 4th gear shaft, and improved boost sleeve.

I dynoed 303whp.

Its been in there for almost 3 years now

About 130k but the tranny actually has about 45k

all these are copied milestone quotes.

Do it. Used intercooled turbo kits are cheap these days. But your trans is going to be the weak spot, always. And spun bearings should always be on your mind. Luckily I have a 1" GMR chain, ZZP IS, pump shaft, etc, but it's still the weak spot in the drivetrain. This on a cammed/intercooled/meth injected L26 w/ t66 and 3" turbo-back exhaust. I drive my s/c'd GTP daily, and hate it. Slow as balls, can't believe I once thought it was 'fast'...

If I have any info to share on my experience it is to use thicker oil. It's a must if you want to help prevent spun rod bearings, which are the death of high revving turbo cars. Use 5 or 10w40. Turbo Diesel oils. The turbo heats it up and thin oil will turn to something like water if given enough abuse. Aside from that, they are very reliable if maintained (like any car, really) and driveability is better than even a stock m90.

Anyways, any used intercooled ZZP or CT kit w/ pt61 is the best bang for buck. They are like $1500 on CGP. Will out perform 90% of s/c builds (aside from jonbob and the likes, but they have spent $$$) and is so much more fun to drive than an M90'd car.

I drove my first intercooled pt61 hard with a bone stock 97 4t65 trans and it never gave me problems. Even with maxed line pressure (solenoid went bad) I never snapped a stock chain or IS. And I beat the car everyday. I still use that same trans now behind a mostly stock L67 in my daily driver.

Now I'm not saying you can get away with this, but this is just my personal experience. It was always on my mind that something could let go in the trans at any minute. My suggestion would be to by a 4340 or 300m IS and a 7/8" chain, pump shaft and some clutch packs as well as a CAA membership just in case. That is a very cheap transmission build that will hold up to the turbo.

My suggestion is if your paying on the car or it is your only car (DD), don't do it. Running down the little shit will drive you mad. They are fun while they are running good, but will bite you in the ass sooner or later. I regret not building something more suited to taking serious mods like a Stang or LSX.

I think that is well put. I know I would love and have a ton of fun with my car with a turbo. But the more I think of it the more I think I am gonna hold back with the gp I mean I have the hood and enough stuff that high 12's should be no issue at all and will be a more reliable setup than to go big.

Insted I will keep the car looking nice and running better than average. ( high 12's low 13's) and focus on stuff like my 455 pontiac powered one ton wagoneer, and my 72' LeMans ( 455 ) insted. And know that they will be good powerfull vehicles also , and that they will all last as the parts where designe to work together.

But either way good luck with the build and plenty of pics and posts either way you go.
