With every year, GM added more and more tables to their PCMs.

From Charles Beyerch, the creator of the PowrTuner:

The 98 grand prix has ~3,570 parameters. (3,568 to be exact)

The 04 grand prix has ~4,800 parameters. (4,784 to be close to exact).

The 05+ GXP has ~18,000 parameters when you factor in the TCM AND the ECM.

Interesting info, nut I'm still curious about my original question:

Can you turn off sensors on the earlier versions, compensate for lean cylinders,do VE with MAP only, etc.?

Looking at the avaliable 04 tables:
Sensors - would be controlled in Fault_Reporting and Fault_Type
Lean Cylinders - would be the Injector_Skew_Percentage_Table
VE- I don't have in the version I have, however, I do think that it's in the last software version that I never installed.

Here are some screen shoots of the avaliable tables in the version of PT that I have.

That's comprehensive.
What I'm really curious about is whether the earlier GP's had similar capabilities to the 04+ years in the way of individual injector skewing, etc?

I'm not on my laptop right now that has the PT software, but when I get home I'll see if I can find a pre-gen bin file to look at.

Thanks Joe for confirming that for me.

My question for Radius is why do you need older tuning tables if you have an 05? Or did I just not read closely enough?

Seems I have a problem with my unit.
To clarify,in the e-mail I mention that the product was used to tune a S/C'd Cobalt.
That was with a unit formerly owned by my buddy's son,NOT this one.
Here's the correspondence:

Let me see:

I go to the store and by a TV that doesn't do everything it's supposed to do and I take it back for exchange,no problem.
I buy your product and I have to send it back to you when it acts the same way.
No exchange with the vendor.
Unusual.
Now I'm left with no logger for at least three weeks or more [I am in Canada].
Then there's the border hassles.
What method for shipping?
USPS registered,I would presume?
I'm not dealing with ANY courier service.
They hammer you with "border handling" charges and they're unreliable.

Because they would need to send us the unit and they cannot resell a used unit. It needs to come to us for inspection, testing & if necessary repair/replacement.

Could you please confirm with them because once I get it, I will be forced to exchange it with them and they haven't wanted to do that in the past. They have wanted to deal directly with the end user rather than me.

Hi John,

It sounds like HP Tuner wants to see the unit for testing?

Make sure to follow the standalone datalogging steps in our demos below step by step and it should work, if you continue to receive an error light its possible it’s a hardware issue in which case you would need to send it into us for testing.

This one's for Bill,I presume.

It seems I can't do stand alone data logging with my HP Tuners.

Her's what I sent Scott Skelton:

It's seems the pro version stand alone data logger won't record.

I've done two re-installs of the program and no luck.

It writes to the unit, but gives me a red light when I try stand alone recording.

Any ideas or do I just need an exchange for another unit?

Thanks... John L. Perrins.

I did spend time with a retired GM engineer "at the helm",so to speak and he couldn't make it work either.

He did use it with his son's car and it worked fine .. his son was "Meatball" on the Cobalt forums.

I'm hoping it's just something that can be rectified easily without sending it in or exhanging it.

Any tips on how to get this working right?

Thanks .. John L. Perrins.

I'm a little disillusioned here.
Looking at the unit you'd never know it was used.
There's not a mark on it.
I look after my stuff.
I know it's not like they can't clean out any credits and reassign a new serial number to it,so where's the problem?
Am I missing something here?
Another quick question:

Can the 04' computer be used in the 05'?
