I want to have my friend tune my car but what do I tell him to watch and change?

I know we have to watch for KR but what else do we watch for...

And what are some of the things you guys changed?

I have no mods other then a CAI

Who has the HPT? If it's for your friend and he doesn't know what to change, then I wouldn't let him touch your car. Too many things can go wrong when tuning. Either find someone that knows how to tune or start reading. Those of us that have tuners did tons of reading on the tuner forums for our particular programs. I had my DHP PowrTuner for a couple of months before I felt comfortable enough to start making changes. Even then, I only made one change at a time as recommended, so that I can see what would be affected and not have to worry about which change in my tuner file did it. We had a DHP forum where the proper techniques and things to look for were discussed extensively. I'm sure HPT should have the same sort of site.

If your car is in good mechanical shape (air filter, fuel filter, plugs, wires, o2 sensor, no vacuum leaks) I would pay attention to Long Term Fuel Trims. You want LTFT to be as close to 0 as possible, especially at high load/WOT. Whatever the LTFT number, is the percentage of fuel the computer is adding or subtracting. To start you should scan/record your idle, check out LTFT and report back.

A friend has the HPT. He's used it on his Trans Am and Vette. I dont know what else he's used it on.

I was just asking for my own knowledge. I trust him to watch the right stuff but I want to make sure too.

So KR, LTFT should be at or around 0. What else should I scan for before changing anything.

I would bring line pressures up in the trans, and work with the trans settings. You can make a big difference in the drivability with shift points and stuff. I made mine stay out of fourth gear under 47mph...period. That was nice.

Im kinda in the same situation...i have friends that tune with hp tuners but havnt looked at anything other than GTO's and Vettes...so i dont know if there are drastic differances in mapping the different vehicles. Seeing how mine is my DD im alittle uneasy with them messing with my car too much if the changing of settings is the same or atleast close enough. I trust them just maybe not on a vehicle they are not familar with lol.
