I can't decide... ScanGaugeII for $155 shipped or A Scaner and tuner for BiG time $$$.

Scangauge- Cheap way to monitor just about everything, but cannot tune and save files.
Scaner and Tuner- Expensive but more useful and saves buying aftermarket PCM.

Also If you do reccomend a Scanner and Tuner, know of a fair priced one?

tuner. or at least an aeroforce to scan. i'm leaning more towards an aeroforce myself to scan for kr but once i hit it heavy with the mods then def a tuner. as far as i've been told by guys with tuners and very modded cars it's kinda pointless to tune if i'm going to throw in more mods later. that's just me though

I have both, I have an HPT for tuning/scanning and a ScanGauge II for daily functions. This way I can watch KR without the laptop and power inverter in the car. Also, it very accurately reads mph and rpm (both of my needles are off because of old age) and it reads other interesting things like timing. After I got the ScanGauge II I felt comfortable adding a bunch of cruise timing and going WOT, neither of which I was comfortable doing before. Also, HPT is $500 + laptop + power inverter. So if you can't afford it right now and the money is burning a hole in your pocket get a ScanGauge II, otherwise I would recommend the Tuner first, so at least you can set up something safe (don't push the limits without a constant way to monitor- my advice) and get your car running well. Oh and you really should get a Wideband when you get a tuner, otherwise you have no idea WTF is going on...my car commands 14.7:1 AFR during normal driving...yet it normally hovers around 15.5:1...I wondered why my spark plugs were white and my car was so loud...apparently when you have the correct AFR (about 15.0:1 if you wanna save a little gas) the car is MUCH quieter. So honestly, you will probably never run the AFR you think you are running without a WB. I know it is a lot of money, right around a $800 for HPT and WB, but it so worth it. The money I spent on tuning was, and still is, well invested.

Oh and here is the short version of advice-> if you want something to monitor with, get a Scangauge II and mount it on your steering wheel column. If you want to tune your car, save up and get HPT and a WB. You will be glad you did. If you have any questions you can feel free to PM me, I'll try to check this thread soon as well.

Btw, nice Hollywood Undead avatar

Go to E-Bay, get a $200 laptop, get a tuner, and leave it permanently mounted. Or, build a PC for the trunk, and run a screen on the dash. I personally wouldn't buy a scan guage AND a tuner. That's redundancy you don't need.

X2 just go with the gauge, its alot easier.
