Hello, lots of good information here and very knowledgeable people so I came here for advice. I have a GP 2004 N/A with no mods and it has 114,000 miles. I have this code P0446 pop up recently, changed the vent solenoid near the fuel neck filler and the code still comes back. I don't have the money to have someone drop the tank and play with the charcoal canister and mess around with new parts over something that only effects the emission test. A car performance shop next to my work has offered to remove the code permanently for $250 or do a normal tune with removing the code for $400. Is it cheaper to just remove the code for $250? Or should I send the car away to a shop to fix this problem. I can't really do this myself as I have 2 jobs now and need the car for daily use. Any input would be great!! Thanks!

First off... $250!!!!?!?!?!?!?! That's highway robbery. Second.... $400 for a tune!?!?!?!?!?!?!??! that's highway robbery with homicide. You could buy an tuner yourself for that price and just delete the code and tune your car and others.

Have you checked the gas cap to make sure that it's properly sealing? Seem like most of the time when that code pops up its either that purge valve or the gas cap.

Here's a thread that goes more into detail on this topic since I'm not really familier with it at all but personally if I were you I woud just ignore it or buy by a tuner and delete the code (especially if a shop wants to charge you that ridiculous amount of money for them to price a computer mouse 3 times).

I agree with Planeboy18.
The big problem with giving advice in your situation is where are you located?
Someone with a tuner suite could easily take care of that for you.

I am located in a suburb of Chicago, Winfield. I thought that price is kinda over the top..I guess I will wait for a better opportunity to come along..I've got $100 for someone who can delete this code. I would love to buy a hptuner or something but I don't have $400 this moment. Dont know anyone with tuner software or any knowledge at all about a car. I read that thread about the evap purge solenoid by the filler neck, changed that along with a new gas cap. I dont have emission tests for a while, but i'd like to remove that light to know of any new problems.

hey a little update on this code..I drive this car a LOT and I noticed after around 180 miles the light disappears. Then driving 80-100 miles it will come back. Twice this happened. During the time the light disappears, could this car pass an emission test? Are any codes stored when the light goes away on it's own? Please someone let me know if this is in the wrong thread/section if I need to start a new one. Thanks!!

If scanning for codes is part of your emissions test, this one WILL be stored.

I bought a new gas cap, evap solenoid. I guess I need a new canister that is located above the tank?
