It shows up when I preview it. I guess it's being looked at because it's long. I don't know but it was a novel...

this is jacked up. I can't copy text and paste it into a window. It shows up when I hit the preview button but not when I hit the submit button.

My PowrTuner and/or my laptop are bothersome tools that are as rewarding as they are infuriating. My combination has been that way since before I owned it. I've owned the PT for 2 or 3 years now. I bought the PT new but the laptop is from my old roommate after the hard drive cratered on him a year or so ago.

I had been using the laptop before that happened but was not when it died. Since then I have added a new HD, Ram increase from 256 Meg to 1 gig. I also have new copies of Windows XP, Norton, & Office 2003. I DO NOT use a USB adaptor; I'm serial all the way. I had some if not all of the issues with the laptop configured as it originally was when he had it. The LT now runs very few programs other than what I've listed. I can't think of any program that has been added that had much affect on the flakiness other than Norton.

It has always been flaky with the PT or the PT has always been flaky with it. I have just spent the last 3 hours trying to get it to connect with my pcm after having to shut the car down so I could lock the door before I went out for a scan. I was scanning at the time. When I got back in and started up the car it wouldn't refresh the gages or communicate at all. I've done this countless times when going in to grab a coke while scanning. Sometimes however it goes stupid and will not re-establish communication. Sometimes you can unplug the PT to get it to start working again. Sometimes it doesn't help. Sometime rebooting the PCM will help, sometimes not. Sometimes you can disable everything Norton and it will start working and other times? Yep, you guessed it... it still won't work. There are even times that re-registering the interface will make it communicate again but there are also times that it doesn't fix things. If you can imagine I've tried everything many many times at this point. The reason I know this many possible solutions is because I've had each of them work for me at 1 point or another. So far nothing has worked this particular time and I have tried everything 20 times over.

I'm not sure if it's my gear or a standard issue with all PTs. I was able to communicate with a car that had quit communicating with the pcm and PT that had been used on it every other time. Of course later it quit communicating with mine as well but eventually communicated with it's original combo. I've also spent hours or days trying to get my PT to start talking after for what ever reason it decides it's not going to work anymore. I don't have access to another GP, LT, or PT to determine where the problem is at this time and I'm just slightly in enough control of myself to not shatter both the LT and PT into the pavement so that I will never spend any more time trying to figure out whether the problem is located in one of them. I will also never have to find out that I missed something. If after another LT and PT the problem persists I will know that it's either a standard PT problem or it's my car.

I do know that I couldn't read my pcm with the Aux input module hooked up even though I could scan. Sometimes in the past when this happened I was able to get it working again by unplugging the aux module even though I'm still using my factory Monsoon deck. I'm no longer using anything other than the Monsoon deck and amp. I did find something that taps into the BCM that no one seems to recognize. I was going to unplug all those little tap connectors. There looks to be about 12-16 of them total. I need a sharpie and some tags to label how this thing is hooked into the factory harness. It doesn't look like any of the factory wires have been cut. They have just been tapped into and go to a connector that doesn't connect to anything. I don't want to discover that I need it later for whatever reason and that I didn't label anything.

So now I'm not going to waste any more time with this POS. Hopefully I will be in a better mood to uselessly label where all these connections tap into before I disconnect them later tonight or tomorrow. Maybe my LT will be in a better mood tomorrow and will just connect up the first time. That doesn't normally happen but when it does decide to communicate again it goes immediately.

These are the reasons I now label my LT, PT, and GP as CURSED! That or one of the 3 is just being a pain in the ass because God hates me. I mean Jeeesshhh. It's not like a drive a Honda or steal from the communion plate. FLAKEY! I cannot put the blame on one of the 3 yet and I guess you could also split those into hardware, software, user, cable, setting (nothing changed!), day, season, the way you're holding your mouth, how many people are watching, etc....

I would love to know WTFIU with my shhhhh... gear. It often works great for anywhere from a few hours to a few weeks once it starts working again. And when it's working I am able to make some serious headway in tuning my car. Right now I can't even get it to scan for codes in my effin car.

Has anyone else found the PT to be especially FLAKEY? To the point that you've seen it stop working a dozen or more times for a dozen or more reasons?

Have any of these problems gone away when you just said forget this effin LT and got anther one? What about if you Uninstalled Norton and any other programs and never connected it to the Internet or anything other than your car ever again?

Has anyone just bought another car? I'm to the point that I just want the Flakiness of what I'm using to just go completely away.
A G8 probably won't even have an interface to piss you off when it is not working.... hmmmmm....

You can also get a supercharger for it!

Have you tried the UVScanner?
I just use the PT to read/write

I find it better to use other software to scan, log, & edit

I've never had any issues with my PT. I have mine hooked up all the time. The only time I don't have it running is when someone needs to ride in the passenger's seat.

I'm using the recommended USB hook up. Serial sucks ass.

I use the serial hook up with no issues. Actually the DHP is serial so for USB you have to use a serial to USB adaptor which is just one more thing that you have to have in your car.

I got it working after about 15 minutes this morning. As far as I could tell it was wiggling the connection for the 34th time at the laptop. I had tried disconnecting it numberous times already. Now I need to do a little tuning.

I haven't been on the DHP site in months. I haven't tried that yet. I'll have to look into UV Scan. I think the problem may be in my laptop but the only time I see it is when I'm hooked up and using the PT software.

I'm already a donating member over there but I haven't installed the UVScan program. I think I may try replacing the serial cable on my DHP. Anyone know if it's a standard pinned cable?

It was the freaking DHP serial cable. I'm finally able to get it to work every time now. I disposed of the DHP branded serial cable. From what I can tell it's just a standard pinned serial cable with DHP molded into the ends. I'm much more happy now that it works. I hope it keeps working. Does Eddie's Tuner Thingy work with the logs from the UVScanner?

Thanks in advance!

Steven
