Hello everyone, i was recently looking at ECU chips and intakes and it seems like a dangerous market out there. I dont want to purchase anything that will ruin the life span of my car or do nothing. So i hope you guys an help me out.

I own a 1999 Grand Prix GT

I want to gain the things i listed below with out putting the engines life in jeopardy.

*Speed limiter removed
*Gain in Power and torque
*Better WOT response
*Better Fuel/oxygen ratios
*Aceleration
*1/4 mile differences
*Better Top end power

Basically i want my car to improve its acceleration and to have more power. But i dont want it to break 2 months later. Thats not my goal. I want it to still have its reliability it has now or better.

Thanks everyone!

If done right, our cars should not break by changing the tune.. But it is likely noone will tell you that it isnt possible..Your car could break in two months with no change to the pcm at all.

Basically, any change to increase performance could increase stress on the engine or other parts.. What is the saying????.... "You Pay to Play"

ECU chips are a joke. They do nothing. Stay away from them.

Find a shop that will do a custom tune on your PCM for you. Much more worth it.

Thanks, becasue i have been hearing that PCM/ECu chips honestly do nothing...

Are their any other modifications you can do to this car besides Headers/Exhaust?

This car seems really limited :(.

We're not limited. There are stock bottom ends making 850+hp. It is feasible to be streetable at the 600HP level, too.

Check out www.zzperformance.com and www.intense-racing.com for ideas.

Well...you're naturally aspirated? No supercharger? That makes it tougher. I assumed you had a supercharger on your engine. You can probably get 250/290 easily enough.

The usual stuff still works, intake, exhaust/headers, and what not. ZZP has the HV3 insert that helps A LOT up top, too. Depending on how far you want to take it, a good tune, rockers or cam, and things of that nature will open you up quite a bit.

A PCM will fo more for our cars than what you think, i would suggest a custom tune if you plan on going all out with your car, if you plan on just minor bolt-ons then a PCM will work for you. You can get them from zzperformance.com, intense-racing.com, wbodystore.com, but alot of people here go with overkill. Here is a link to a person who just installed a PCM in his car, you might find this helpful 04-08-grand-prix-discussion-f19/overkill-update-t17968.html

Well currently i have just an exhaust system on their and a K&N filter. Im planning on getting an K&N Air intake this week, it claims 13 more hp, but does you guys know of another that will give more hp?

I want to get a cam on it but its at 100k miles and the only time ill add a cam, headers, or forge anything is when i blue print the engine and get a specifically designed supercharger that works with it also, but that will come in a couple years.

Right now im more focused on getting 300 hp through N/A mods. :D

Also i forgot to mention, what does the HV3 insert do? It sits over the pistons doesn't it?

Its a 1999 Grand prix GT not a GTP.

Hmm. Going back to the original post, now I see what you mean by ECU chips.. I think...

Anyway, my post was in reference to a PCM tune.. I wouldnt bother screwing with a TP% enhancer or any other type of device inserted in to the stock electrical controls.

Sorry, you won't gain 13 hp with a K&N intake...

Decent tune not at a shop.. under or around $100 ?

You sure? Because they guarantee that my car will have 13.8 more hp at 5k rpm or my money back and i get to keep it any way.
