I just bought a 2004 GTP that I thought was stock but as it turns out it has a 3.4 pulley on it and when I took out the air box to put in a spectre open cone filter half of the air box was not bolted down which makes me wonder if there was an intake installed. Also after I bought the car I noticed it had very firm shifts and would stay in second gear longer than I thought it should so I took it back in to Carmax and they rebuilt the trans but even after the rebuild it still shifts firm and stays in gear longer, also I'm not sure but the wire harnesses that connect to the CPU look tampered with. Anyways is there an easy way to tell if it's indeed tuned or is there anyone in the KC area that has a tuner that can look at it for me??

Get a bigger pulley on that puppy. A 3.4 with no supporting mods isn't a good thing at all. Other than plugging the car into a tuner suite like HPT, there's not really any other way to tell that I can think of. Sorry I'm not much of a help with this.

You may be able to tell by how the transmission shifts when you pin it. I know the zzp pcm and a few others downshift when WOT at certain RPMS I beliebe, not exactly sure of all the details, but also, does your fan stay on after you turn the car off?

Any idea where I could get ahold of a stock pulley or is my best bet just to buy one of the modular sets with a 3.8 pulley??

Ya it stays on for 10-15 seconds after I shut it down

One way to tell is look on the back of the pcm, if it is from a vendor it will have the name of the vendor on it. Someone is selling a stock pulley in the classified section. I only would buy the modular pulley system if your interested in modding your car and dropping pulley sizes, if not then don't waste the money.

Also your car might have a shift kit installed. That could be the reason for the firmer shifts and it staying in gear longer.

That could of been true before my trans was rebuilt but I assume thats no longer a possibility

All depends if the shop went into the shift accumulater. They also might not of known what they were looking at. Most shift kits are just small spacers, others are stiffer springs. When most shops do a rebuild they manly replace clutch packs, gaskets, bands..etc. They only replace the hard parts if they are scared or worn.

You need to change that 3.4 pulley a 3.8 as soon as possible, or the engine will get damaged from lack of supporting mods. Until you get it changed go easy on the throttle with no WOT runs.

As for it being tuned, it doesn't really matter. You need to have it tuned to the mods you install, not to the mods the previous owner had on the car.

Check and see if it is a modular pulley, if it is, it just saved you a lot of time and having the need for a pulley puller. Take a pic of the engine bay and post if up here. That car should at the very least be running headers with a pulley that small.

It's not a modular pulley and it dosnt have headers or a down pipe, also the wires are ac delco stock wires. I'm starting to think that who ever had this car before me was just some moron who slapped on a pulley and called it good

For those wires, they are just fine.. many of us even fairly decent builds run stock coils and wires.

I changed mine at one point, and started getting a lot of misfires. I put the stock wires back on and the misfires went away, so I'm still rockin the stock wires.

Wow a 3.4 with no mods. I'm sure your getting mass loads of KR. Switch it out. If there are little stainless bolts on the pulley it is a Modular and you can remove it with alan wrench. Should be easy to swap. If not you will need a pulley puller, have fun with that:D Even with headers, intake, 104's, 180tstat, and a custom tune I'm still iffy on even running a 3.5-3.6"....

Something tells me the person who originally had car modded it and sold it at last second and didn't pull pulley because they didn't wanna deal with a puller to get hub off.
