About 3 weeks ago my buddy pulled my tranny pan to clean it and change the filter and he found a small pin caught on the magnet in the pan. He thinks it might be from my tranny pump. If this is so, could that be causing the stuttering at certain rpms (usually about 2300-2700 rpm while going 65-70 mph) or the rough shifts when just accelerating?

What kind of pin? Got a pic? Could be a part of a needle bearing, could be a roll pin from the diff.

No im afraid I dont, but I would say it was about the length of a dime and as thick as a quarter (im sure that doesnt help narrow it down at all lol) Im just trying to come up with as many ways to fix my tranny problems without actually swapping the tranny, so im jumping on anything and everything for hope lol

Sounds like a "needle" from a needle bearing.

Rough shifts is most likely the shift solenoid going out

Is there a way I can test for that problem? And if it costly to replace?

Not so much costly, but a pain in the balls to get to. They're right inside the case. Only downside is you either have to pull the trans or drop the cradle to access them. Figure you might as well replace both after all the effort haha. You can pick them up for a reasonable price from Dave at TEP

Here we go again with tep.. Your better off getting them from monster parts or aftermarket.. Are there any transmission codes in the pcm??? Scan for trans codes man.. That sounds like a roller from a needle bearing.. you might have a bearing getting rear to come apart. But the only way to know for sure is to pull the unit and tear it down..

the studdering could be caused from the roller bearing that the pin came out of and its catching at that spot but only way to find out for sure is to r&r the unit. And if you don't know what r&r means its remove and replace.

The needle bearings in these transmissions are actually thrust bearings for endplay clearances. Yes, that could cause the problem. Remember, don't listen to anything SleeperSE says. He is a complete moron.

Unless you are comfortable with automatic transmissions I would recommend taking it to a transmission shop.

You have torn down hundreds yet you took yours to a transmission shop? I've torn these down before too. I double checked the breakdown and a quick count on two breakdowns for the transmission revealed 4 thrust bearings. They were not labeled thrust washer like many others on the breakdown. I'm not saying that is for sure what he found, but it is possible.
