I have been fighting this thing for years now. Some how, its still limping on. Ive dropped the pan like twice in 2 years. First time, had a lot of typical wear shavings dust particals whatever. But more than there should have been with the tranny only being a year old after rebuild. Did the 2nd flush a few days ago. Lots more shavings... LOTS. Like there was a big pile of gunk, look like a wet dirt clod. But no actual pieces.

I had replaced the TCC and EPC 2 years ago. Original torque converter with about 135k miles. Im getting codes P0741 (tcc stuck off) AND P0742 (stuck on) at the same time! This thing whines at the bellhousing too. Hard to pin point where but if I had to point, Id say towards the front of the car.

Shifting. When I first start it and drive, itll go into 2nd, 3rd, 4th fine. Of course, the thing feels like it has very little slip it shifts so quick and hard. And I mean HARD. Like hitting a shallow bump in the road. But most the time, the trans doesnt like shifting into 2nd gear. Will stay into 1st gear. Only way I can get it to upshift is to get past 3k rpm, let off the gas, and itll jump into 3rd. I know I still have 2nd cuz I can get it to downshift into it.

I know right, wtf status. Ive had guesses something is sticking in the valve body, tranny harness, 1-2 shift solenoid, the new TCC is defective, came unplugged, torque converter... Just some opinions. I may go till this thing lights on fire.

Keep in mind that the fluid is also thicker when cold. The thicker fluid may allow the transmission to shift into all of the gears. I would have it pressure tested.

the whine could be the pump or it could be a bearing.

Im thinking something is just not getting fluid. The question is, WHY? Is this what might be making things move not lubricated and make the whine noise? Is it why maybe everything is shifting so damn hard that the pressure is spiked? I personally think its something in the valve body blocking the TCC from getting any fluid. In fact, if the TCC was lacking fluid, would that send it into stuck "on" or "off" mode?

if a bearing is damaged the metal debris would get into the valve body and cause valves to jam\stick. On my '99 GTP it made a whining sound for over a year then eventually P0741 & P0742 (TCC Suck on\off). The cause was the debris\metal shavings from the bearing eventually clogged the valve passages in the valve body and valves got stuck. Running the wrong trannsmisison fluid didn't help either, I was running "Ford Type F" fluid for firmer shifts.

Tell me about these bearings. What bearings? lol.

had the same problem on my 98, but it was just shavings in the valve.

should these tranny codes make the check engine light come on??????? my dealership said mine was throwing 4 codes and the light never came on and my tranny is wasted. its been sitting at the dealer for a week now and im still waiting to hear if they are going to do anything for me. mind you mine is an 04 with only 43K on it. mine too started making a whining noise at the bell housing when i first started it. i drove it to work one night it was fine, when i got in at the end of the night it started making that whining noise, i got in and put it in drive and there was nothing there. gm had me drive it to two different dealerships on a bad tranny and they have been telling there waiting for a "district specialist" to make a decision on how much they are willing to help me. if these codes should have thrown a dummy light that just gives me more grounds to bust there balls on top of that they had me driving around on a bad tranny. of course they asked me if i have bought gm's in the past and if i was thinking about buying a new car. i told them yes i was in the process of looking for a brand new truck. ill blow smoke up there ass and tell them ill sign the papers on a brand new 2500 right after my tranny has been fixed.

Usually it will put the SES light on, although some codes wont.
Do you have a scanner, or have a friend that can scan for codes?
