I have a 2004 CompG. Is the transmission filter different on the comp g (HD) than say on a GT or base model GP?

Check with Autozone or advanced auto, they should have it listed in the computer. Thats where I got mine when I changed it.

They should be able to, but I'd go threw Monster parts. They should be cheaper... maybe... don't know about the shipping costs.

It's identical. They're the same filters as the old 4T60's. Any will work, just make sure you get a GOOD gasket and some gasket sealer otherwise it'll leak

From what I understood from the instructions, if the old gasket was good- just reuse it. Thats what I did at least.

I totally dissagree with that only because I thought the same... Until I saw all my trans fluid all over the floor ;)

Just replace, it's $10

I used the old gasket - 15K later, and no leaks yet. My new gasket that came with the filter sucked ass..

I replaced my filter with an original GM filter at 66K, got it through my father's shop account with discount, I think I paid 20-30$CAD for the filter. It did not come with a gasket, from dealer it was sold seperately, the gasket through dealer with discount again was close to 50$CAD IIRC. The dealer told us we can resuse it if it wasn't damaged because it's a pretty durable gasket that comes from the factory. It was a rigid gasket covered with rubber IIRC, im now at 80K and never had any leaks. Mind you my car is a 2008 so the gasket is still pretty fresh and may not be the same quality of gaskets that were used in the prior years...or is it?

The stock gasket is a rubber over metal setup and it can be reused.

So awesome.. you could have just quoted the 3 posts above you and saved yourself the typing

I changed my filter, cleaned off the stock gasket and reused it (on a 2002!). ~11k later and it's still holding up.

I buy mine from ZZP and change the fliud every spring. I believe the filter from them comes with a replacement gasket.

maybe u didn't apply the right enough of torque to each bolt or didn't follow the bolt pattern.

That's a negative... Following torque specs will snap the bolts (as i've found out in the past). I even retightened the bolts upon noticing the HUGE leak. I guess in my case it was just a pore inspection on my part

On my '99 I reused the same gasket up until about 85K and it never leaked and I used the factory torque specs. I haven't done my '04 yet being that it only has 40K but planning on it real soon. Hope it has that rubber/metal gasket my old GP had.
