what is a good temp for a tran to run at? mine tends to run between 170 and 200 but when i get out of the car it smells like it's burning.

That's a good temp for it to be at. Under 200* is ideal. You may be leaking some trans fluid, and it's getting on the exhaust and burning.

i'll have to look into that. hopefully i'm not leaking anything. occasionally i'll see 212 but it drops back to about 199ish. it really only gets hot when it's hot out and i'm heavy on the throttle. i was gonna get a trans cooler but from what i've read and seen, those arent too good for these trans.

My trans temp gets up between 250-280 something, on long highway speeds. When it gets up there I lose 4th gear its starts to shift hard. I slow down to city speeds 4th gear comes back. No codes. I know I need a tranny cooler bad. The tranny fluid is never dark or burnt. I run dexron6. My car in 2nd gear goes to 112mph at 6800rpm so 3rd gear is ok to cruise in. I use HP tuners scanning.

i almost shit a brick when i saw your 2nd top speed, then i read your mod list.

my trans goes above 200 only when i idle for long periods of time and then beat the piss out of her. even when i'm running her hard it rarely goes over 200.

2nd Gear in these trans are long. I had to lighten the valve train up in order to run those rpms.

What springs are you running? I know I took a valvetrain that was modded ONLY with 1.84 rockers to 6300 on a regular basis. I'd love to see near 7000.
