Older post, but figred i'd go ahead and post it here as it could be a good reference in some way.

My stock trans was acting up after changing the fluid eventually loosing all but 2nd gear... Make sure to stay away from Mobil1 ATF. Heard of 4 guys with GTP's blowing their trans after changing their fluid to Mobil1 (myself included)

Picked up a 4t65-e (non-hd) with low miles and a higher stall convertor, hardened 4th gear and a gasket kit. Plan is to do a light rebuild on this trans and use my HD diff from my stock trans

Took about 2 hours to get the abs block, master cylinder, harness, hood and axles out of the way. Another 2 hours or so to get the motor out. It was close because of my garage and the car being lifted too high, but finally got the bastard out haha. Most likely clean the engine bay and paint the motor on my off time.

Here's some pictures of the progress...

That oil is going to be a bitch to clean up... I thought the catcher was under it, but I guess I was wrong :(

My friend Brad helping me out once I started pulling the motor

Ignore my messy garage.. Still in the process of swapping motors on the 5.0 so garage space is limited

Everything came off smootly. Only issue came when seperating the trans from the motor.. Had the motor suspended a little to help slide the trans off the tq converter and wasn't watching my hand placement. Needless to say, the trans fell right on my pinky. That sure woke me up haha

Also got my headers, went ahead and mocked them up since I had nothing better to do. Discovered a healthy little crack around the front manifold. Good thing it's getting tossed haha. Anyhow, pics...

Now I just have to finish up all the gaskets, attach the valvebody and bolt 'er back up.

Got the valvebody and oil pump back on

All bolted up and pretty :)

Welp, she's almost done... Woke up at 9 so I could start early, call over a few friends to help me out with guiding it in. Strapped her up, popped her in, bolted up the converter to the flexplate and were relaxing by 9:30 haha. I work quick, what can I say :)

Took the rest of the day just playing with the headers. Figured there was no rush since I can't drive it yet. Most likely do something here, something there for the next week or so till I can get the cash for muh lubrication.

Here's my progress as of today

Why buy something sensible with a RWD setup when you can build something really stupid, like this
