Well, I finally got around to changing the fluid and filter. The old fluid really didnt look that bad. Little brown but not burnt, and didnt smell burnt either. Now I am noticing that sometimes when I take off after putting it in drive it almost feels like its slipping. I will give it gas and it will start to move, then you can really feel it kick in. I can feel it thump then it takes off. Its kinda hard to explain. I have noticed that it only does it the first time I put it in drive. Any ideas?

Undo the battery for 15 minutes. Your transmission "learns" how you drive and that information is based upon the fluid present when it does the "learn". So unhook battery for 15-30 minutes, drive the car for about 25-50 miles how you normally do, and there you have it.

Alright, I unhooked the battery for about an hour last night. Then I hooked it up, reset the stereo and went to bed. This morning it didnt do what it was doing. But, it seems to be floating between gears. Instead of going from first to second, it just kinda hangs on to first.............then finally slips into second. Dosent really feel like its slipping between gears, almost like there is another gear between first and second. But it also does it on all the gears, not just first and second. Since it just started that, I am assuming that it is still "learning" how I drive?

I would say. Give it about 2 weeks before condemning anything.

Did you 2 reset the "learn" thing on your cars? Don't forget to. Might not be an issue at all.

No it does not take a few weeks fella's I just did a water pump t-stat and a bypass hose on my grandmother's 2001 3100 buick century and its a w body and I had to unhook the battery I drove the car for 25 miles and it did the same thing that everyone's posting about then just over 25 miles of driving it cleared up.

Its called learn time also.

Ben, no. You didn't change the trans fluid. It "learns" faster when using the same fluid. Only time these issues should happen is when fluid is changed. Period.

When I last had my trans flushed, it was acting strangely. Unhooked the battery and the shifts were all off. Ofter about 2 weeks of just driving it normally, it firmed up and hasn't been too bad since.

Wrong again Longone I've unhooked my battery many of times and it does what the op was saysing his is doing and after driving the car it stops. Its called re learing the pcm settings.

shut up man i worked at a dealer and the quikest any thing learnd was with in 50 miles. that was brand new cars 07 08. with are cars it takes abought a week of varries driving conditions to fully relearn the system for proper fuction.

every thing has to be relearnd fuel trims timing advance timing retard trans line presser idle with A/C on idle with A/C off. some cars even remember KR so if you unhook the battery you might get KR you did not have before.

Ben...The pcm learns from the fluid thats in the car so if its new fluid it will take longer to learn. Ive unhooked my mattery many times and not caused any tranny problems and im sure most of the people on here have as well...i dont think you know what your talkin about...

Yes I do. Because it does it everything I unhook the battery. maybe your pcm's are different but mine does the same thing that the op states everytime the battery is unhooked

Besides the "learn time" that is required, Ive also heard that the friction material in the clutches actually get used to the fluid that has been in the car before you do a trans flush, and when you put in new fluid it has new lubricants that are not the same quality or viscosity as the old fluids, so the trans has to have time to adjust and let the lining of the clutches absorb and get used to the new fluid. I did a trans flush at 60K on my old 3100 GP with the 4t60e trans, and had nothing but trans problems after the flush. I cant say for sure that the two were related, but after the flush I had trans solenoids go bad on numerous occasions and the shifting just never got back to the way it was before the flush. Damn Ben, everybody's hatin on you man...might wanna take a hiatus for awhile so's you can salvage whatever credibility you have left. just an idea

Just wanted to update on the tranny. I ran it a little harder today and it seemed to be better. When I got on it it shifted fine, actually it shifted nice and hard. Not just fine but pretty damn good! And even when I was just driving it "the right way" it seemed to do better. So, I dont know, but it seems to be "learning". Hopefully after another couple of days, or weeks, it will be back to normal.

Also on a side note. About all the driving I do is to work and back. I only live one mile from the hiway. And work is another mile off the hiway. BUT, it is 60 miles between home and work. So, since I am in the hiway, and not shifting, will that make it take longer to "learn"? Dosent really matter, just wondering.

yes it would take longer to learn how to shift becuase you are not actualy having the car shift. if you had a job in the middle of acity with alot of stop and go it would take lesstime to learn
