The trans is slipping. I think it's just in 2nd, but I haven't had the car long and can't be sure about the others. The rpm will stay steady at 2500 or 3000 while the speed increases. Good, right? Anyhow, I checked the fluid and the level is correct. The fluid has just the tiniest bit of burnt smell, not even enough to be sure it's really there. It looks good. But I saw a few small bubbles in the fluid. Maybe 3 or 4 near the very top of the dipstick, on either side.
Any ideas why this might be? Also, I'm planning to change the fluid and filter tomorrow. Are the anti-slipping additives, such as Lucas or Tran Honey any good? Could they help stave off the (apparently) inevitable? I'm guessing a shift kit will only hasten it's demise, so I'm not planning on putting one in right now.
Thanks, Gas.

Trans fluid ONLY! Change the filter, and use Dex6.

Actually, a shift kit might help, because it shortens up the shifts, and is easier on the clutches, though harder on the hard parts.

The thing about shift kits, though, is that they raise the line pressure. If the seals are going bad, the shift kit can hasten the process.

It's not increasing the line pressure (something electronically controlled through the PCM), just reducing the time it takes for the pressure to rise to the clutch packs. Less time for the pressure to rise = faster shift, slow building pressure = slow, soft shift.

It's not a bad isea to put a shift kit in. It may actaully help with the slipping. I recommend the transgo if you decide to get one. I have read on other forums about some people experiencing slipping wiht dex 6. I myself was going to go with dex 6 and spoke to Dave at triple edge performance. He recommended to stick with what the manual calls out for, which is dex 3. How many miles do you have?

128,xxx. I had always heard, at least with the older non-electronically controlled ones, that the shift kits raised the line pressure. So, with these, the line pressure isn't controlled mechanically? How on earth does the pcm control the pressure? I can't figure that out. Is there a pressure release valve in there that is controlled by the pcm?
Maybe I'll change the fluid today, and since I'll only get part of the fluid I can order the shift kit and install it in a week or so when I do another fluid change.
Then again, if it doesn't raise the line pressure, how will it make 2nd stop slipping? It goes into gear, it's just that when it's in 2nd, the rpm stay the same while the speed continues to go up. Not a good sign.
I'd definitely like shifts that feel like something other than shredded and mashed wet noodles, and I may do it for that reason. Especially since it may slow down the clutch wear. The thing is, I'm still trying to fix the issue with in-gear slippage in 2nd.

with a pulse with modualted solinoid it opens and closes the passage from the fuild pump the longer it is open the higher the pressure is becuas it allows the fluid to enter. with it closed the pump recuirculates it's own fluid. all this happens in mili-seconds

this si also how the trans tels it to shift by electricly opening or closing passages to allow fluid to enter or drain out.

all the shift kit does on a 4t65-e or most electricly controled transmissions made by GM and ford is shortening the stroke of the acumulator pistons and weaking the spings so they open faster to allow the fluid to build up pressure quicker allowing it to fisht faster and firmer becuase of this

Thanks, man. Now I get it, and iIwouldn't worry about putting in a shift kit. First, though, I need to video the gauges as I go through the gears to see what everybody thinks of the trans performance.
