Alright guys I Love the Grand prix but the shift know is in my opinion boring. So i was wondering what other shift knobs might fit. I would ultimatly like to put in a 93-02 firebird shift knob. You know the T shape and mabe even fashion a shift boot on. Can any one tell me about how compadible gm shift knobs are and such. I have an 06 by the way.

Alright well Since no one gave me feedback i desided to take a shot in the dark and see what i could do for cheap so heres the fruits of my labor for 20 bucks.

That looks good, and you probably could use a Firebird/TA shifter knob if you wanted to..I've seen some 97-03 GPs with Trans Am and Bonneville shifter knobs installed.

I like it - T Shape shifter would be great!, I always wondered what a shift boot would look like.

The shift boot is actually made out of the hood of a halloween grim reaper robe. You know that really thin cloth which also allows a cool effect cause at night you can just bearly read the red lit lettering through the boot. And i want a TA shifter do they work?

The TA shifter should work, but I have not attempted it as I am still looking for one. If you by chance have a TA shifter take a couple pics and I will help to modify it so it will fit. - IMO the GP was ment to have a T style shift knob.

For the boot I might just have the same material. Didn't even think of using see through material to still view the lettering at night.

NOTE: its been rumored that the new style Factory mustang T handle shifters will fit without modification. - There just hard to find.

I dont have a T shifter mabe if i have some more money this next week ill call some local junkyards and see if they have any firebirds. Its just for some reason my junk yards suck. I called like 4 asking for 04+ GPs to salvage parts from and non of them had any 04+ GPs. I expected them to say oh yeah we got like 3 of those cause i see em on the road so much i would assume atleast that many are wrecked each day.

Firebird T shifter would match quite well, finding one in good condition may be the problem.

I'd like to see this T shifter in place. The stock shifter for our cars is to say the least..boring.

Doing something ugly gives you more reason to upgrade later and continue modding

Im posting again on this thread to kinda re kindle it. I went ahead and ordered an 85-99 firebird T shifter off ebay tonight and hopefully will have it installed with pics by the end of the week. Wish me luck. It was actually a cool find a company on ebay was selling a new in box one from GM.

I like the new shifter. Its alot more interesting then the stock and looks more like it should be there then the aluminum one. I also took the boot off cause I desided i like reading the lettering easy at night and day. Leme know what u guys think.

Looks better than the other one. I have always been curious how the olds intrigue shift knob would look and if it would fit grand prix's. This is what the intrigue shifter looks like.

the shifter itself should fit without issue ... not use if the boot will work though.... would be interested in seeing this if you do it

It would probably require minimal modification to fit, but it bet it would work if you really like that style. I always thought it looked to modern and ergonomic like something out of a soccer mom car but thats just me.

To be honest I think the firebird shifter looks cheap, it looks like it is made of molded plastic? I'd do something completely custom if I were you.

Props for thinking about something different and actually acting on it, I just think the shifter looks cheap.

I would have preferred to find a Trans am one which would have been leather wrapped. but the mold line on it is actually much less visible in person.
