I guess it is right section to post. When I start my car. It won't let me shift after I apply my brake. It just happened last Friday. It is getting annoyed by use small tool to push the release button next by shift to drive around. It is driving fine. When you apply the brake. I'm sure you usually heard or feel the click sound like unlock the shift release after you push the brake. I don't have that click sound when I push the brake anymore. I also have no orange light for PRND321 dashboard as well too. Anyone have that problem? If so... How can I get it fix?

Thanks,
palsut

Last Saturday I check that wire but it is fine.
Image

Then I got check gm service manual link for pictures. I have no idea there is other wire connect under shift. I pop it out and saw something that make me ugh since I hate wire crap. lol The green with white stripe & purple with white stripe came out. I don't know how hell they get that off itself. No rat/mouse poop anywhere as I checked if they chewing my wires
Image
Image
Image

Green with white stripe wire is A/T Shift Lock Control Solenoid Supply Voltage
Purple with white striple wire is Steering Column Key Cylinder Lock Solenoid Control

That's probably explain why my key stuck for nearly 7 month for loose purple wire?

If so then I took solenoid out for nothing last Saturday for finally fix the key stuck. Look like I'm going to junk yard to find the better shape wire. So far it is 1 GT which it is engine fire. Hopefully wire doesn't burn.

Well, I went to junk yard and got shift wire from 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix SE today. It is not working but the PRND321 shift (not dashboard) light is on. I knew this wire is working. Look like I'm going to take her in shop. I'm out of idea. :-(

It is very annoyed. I have 2 same cars.

Summer car = working
Daily driving car = not working

I was driving my summer car last Thursday. I was looking for tool that I need to push the shift button. I realize that I'm idiot that I'm on my summer car which I can shift it fine. Too way confused for me. Same thing as key stuck on daily driving car too but I got it fixed already.

I try 3 differenet wires from junk yard. Nothing work. So I wonder if I remove whole shift out and replace with junk yard shift. Will it fixed my problem? It is getting annoyed to start my car and use my tool to release the shift lock out every day. lol

Sometimes, it does hard to know if I'm D or 3 without no orange light dashboard. Something is missing for connect.

It sounds like the lock release isn't getting the signal that the brake pedal is being pressed, you might want to check that switch before taking your car to a shop.

Beautiful car
Image

but it got a shitty shift stuck with lot of parts out now from inside

no orange light anymore since then
Image

So I find them but I don't think it is not problem. Don't see any black mark on it like bad wire. I remove it out and plug it back. Nothing work anyway.
Image
Click thing still work. I actually push the brake pedal during picture. So I can see it is fine.
Image
I came with plan.
Image
Is that solenoid? How heck I can get it off? Sound like it stick together.
Image
Then I come with new plan. I think I'm going to junk yard to grab 2003 SE model which it is very good shape. But how can I remove black thing?
Image

My plan is get 2003 SE shift. Swap it and hope it is working?

Redneck double shift
Image

Well sadly, it is not working because no orange light on dashboard for shift. 2003 model have over 180,000 miles. Smoking and drink spill all over. Collect lot of 25 coins under shift area. Not sure if I have a bad part from junk yard. 23 buck for that. Oh well. Guess time to take car to shop to find out what f*ck wrong with this. I also removed dashboard cover. I was thinking shift light probably was bad but there is no light bulb behind dashboard for shift.

I hate that car now. Should got Toyota

Your shift indicator not lighting up on the dash is either a blown BTSI fuse, short in the wiring harness, or a problem with the transaxle range switch.

Mostly, I think it might be wire problem. I checked BTSI fuse. No black mark. Look clean.

Dealership have a wire testing. Maybe they will find them where is the bad wire coming from.

No matter what I do. Nothing helped. Good to know I'm not alone lol

The wire is perfect fine to me. I don't see anything wrong with it. Heck, I use 3 spare shift wire harness from junk yard. So it doesn't help either.

I'm thinking bring my car in shop on Thursday.

Oh my brake light is fine. I checked them too. Actually, I check them last night too. They are still fine. I'm out of idea so time to get raped by shop lol

FINALLY FIXED!!!!!

It is damn blown BTSI fuse. Geez all of that for that damn 4 dollar fuse part. It does feel good to start car and pull the shift instead use screwdriver to push the release shift button. I hope I don't have a bad habit for find screwdriver because I have doing that since June 2010

I'm so happy that it is not wire problem which I'm worry about that mostly. Shop told my dad that it is blown fuse. I just like serious?!? I checked them and it is CLEAN other day. Man guess part failure.

Now I put everything back together and ready to drive in normal day. At least my girlfriend won't make fun of me lol :)

Finally orange light on dashboard
Image
dumbass fuse. It is located on bottom of 3rd row (orange look)

Yeah, a fuse can be bad, or more accurately, weak, and act like a blown fuse, but look good. Seen that happen more times than I care to count.

shandeep already got his fixed yesterday around 5pm. He post same day "kind like double post" on his thread which it doesn't show on active topic that I use. If I knew that yesterday so I won't take that car to shop this morning. Oh well no big deal. Just glad shop found out the problem for me. This guy own nice black gp gt with custom rim work on my car. He also knew my show car too.

I guess I should "swap" fuse next time to see if it is working. Oh well I will know what to do later in future. Maybe my show car will get turn if I have same problem like some other gp do. If it does then I will always remember

black.gtp: she can make fun of my low coolant light. But I have coolant sensor from junk yard for free. Going to fix that soon. After that my car will be "problem-free" :)

Always check your fuses with a test light, don't just look at them! Glad you got it fixed! ;-)

Test light? how can I do that? I never done that before. It is actually my first fuse blown on my car. So I'm pretty clueless. I thought blown fuse usually show "black" like burn out. Just a mistake on my part for look I guess.

I'm glad it is solved now. I have a nice drive today. Start the car..... where is my screwdriver? oh right it is fixed. finally pull the shift

Here ya go, Pat: How to check a car fuse

You can save yourself a lot of headaches with a test light, which you can get at any auto parts store.
