Hey guys. My Check Engine light came on the other day and after pulling codes, it said something about my Shift Solenoid. I found the part at Lordco for $89.33 canadian, and I am just wondering is this something I could tackle on my own? Anyone able to tell me how to replace this part?

What was the code? If it was P1811, it is recommended that the trans come out of the car. However, it IS possible to do it with the trans still in. The side cover comes off, and apparently, it can be wiggled out of there. I don't know any more about it than that...though, I do know mine needs to be replaced.

i can't remember the code off the top of my head. I'll try to swing by after work and grab the code again since it popped back up after the mechanic cleared it. :(

Well I'm booked into the shop for next Thursday, the 19th. Quoted $471.30 including taxes to repair it.

He didn't tell me the code. Kinda mad about that, but I'm glad it's not $1000 like i figured it would be. Half a day to repair the car. Booked in for 8:30 am next thursday.

you think that's too much? I don't know. For a shop up here to work on a transmission and have it done in half a day, I'm pretty damned impressed.

Just means I have to push back the inferno spoiler and SE valances a bit longer though. Oh well.

Yeah, if it is the PCS, then that's plenty reasonable for a shop to do it, in my opinion.

I don't think that price is too bad. I was quoted here last week $470 CAD to remove/reinstall my tranny, $610 for a complete rebuild (just labour).

I contacted a big transmission shop in the city, and theirs was almost $2000!

My PCS was bad... but figured I'd just put a rebuilt in... got one from tripleedgeperformance.com, cost me 1300, plus 600 to have my mechanic put it in... I was mad at first... wanted to junk my car... but now, I love how my car runs like it's supposed to.

Not bad at all considering that the whole tranny was removed, disassembled, and reinstalled.

Mine is on its way to the Trans shop also, more than likely for the same issue. Didn't throw any codes, but they cracked it open and it doesn't look good inside. Burnt fluid, burned clutches, etc. BUT....they are gonna rebuild it to TEP specs and do all kinds of upgraded transmission internals....I gave em a list of goodies to put into the trans. Apparently all of the performance stuff that TEP offers as a performance upgrade is pretty much standard procedure for a trans overhaul at the shop Im going to. This may have been a blessing in disguise, I'm finally gonna have a Trans that's worth a damn  $1900 after parts and labor

Brian and I have replaced one of those with the trans still in the car. After we finished, I would have to say that it was only moderately better than just pulling the transmission and doing it. We've done so many tranny swaps for locals that it probably would have been faster. It was a pretty big PITA to do in the car. $470 sounds reasonable to pull the trans, put in the part, and reinstall.
