I'm gonna install a shift kit pretty soon but was wondering what shift firmness should I do? Is a hard shift good or bad for the car?

Hard shift will make it fun to drive, but it will wear out the parts quicker. Go with the medium setting.

this is not compleatly true a hard shift will save weare on the clluches and bands because the trans dose not slip as mutch (a soft shift is soft becasuse the trans slipps a little while going in to gear) but it will increase the likely hood of hard part failure.

i have mine set to sledge hammer

Right, so a hard shift is easier on the cluthes but harder on the hard parts and a soft shift is harder on the clutches and easier on the hard parts. Therego, set it on medium...

ive had a shift kit for over a year..never installed it, probabaly not going to. i just wanted the tranny filter..the upped line pressure and and faster shift times in the pcm are enough for me.

too late I already did, and it's a piece of sh*t. But since I have it might us will put it in. Also I'm planning on putting in a Overkill PCM hopefully around christmas. Just wondering if I am still gonna need the shift kit or should I just wait and just put in the PCM?

Wait until you put the pcm in before installing the shift kit. Will changes up the settings in the pcm and you may like it the way he has it. No need to drop the pan if all you have to do is change out the pcm.

the pcm will relaern the new shifting styles because of the physicaly changes made by the shift kit and overwrite the older agressive ones, so it will be almost exactly the same as if you never installed the shift kit at all. i wouldnt bother with it.

Well I need to do a trans fluid change, and I taught while I'm at it, I should install the shift kit. But I guess it was a waste of money in my case.

i have a prj custom shift kit he made for me. I like it alot and i also have increased line pressure and faster shift times. So the medium feels like a medium/hard.

for how long have you had that setup? So do you recommend installing the shift kit anyways?

I have a 05 base (no mods yet) which is coming up to time for trans service. If I am dropping the pan I would like to do this. I definately would like a slightly firmer shift than stock. Would the stock pcm relearn to correct for the physical changes? Does it have the ability to do this? What is better? Changes via the pcm or the shift kit?

does a shift kit actually show a noticeable performance difference in the car or no?
I was considering getting one but if it dont show a good performance difference i wont bother.

I dunno if the pcm can relaearn to correct or compensate for the physical changes made by installing a shift kit, but I think it is just essentially a re-worked valve body that allows for upped line pressure and quicker, firmer shifts. I also have an 05 base GP that I have modded and is currently HP Tuned with performance stuff done to the trans via the PCM. I am very pleased with the results, i can tell a noticeable performance increase from stock, and from what it sounds like both the shift kit and changes via the PCM would yield the same results, but having both is pointless because they both serve the same purpose. of course having quicker, firmer shift dont mean squat if dude has 40 more HP than you. Anyway, hope this makes sense and not just restating the obvious.
