So the car is the 07 Grand Prix. The fluid level seems fine, right at the operating level at the low of the cross hatch, I checked another day the fluid was within, perhaps I didn't check it properly the first time....

Mostly in D, but also in R, there seems to be a noise coming from the engine bay, driver side, like somethings engaging.. but only when moving this happens. E.g. reverse out, hit the brake, change gears, get on the gas, or roll forward, then I hear the noise like a half turn or something... sounds like something's engaging, or rubbing into place. It does not do this from the stops lights... It does after I shut off the car, fill up gas, then get going again.

The dealer only resurfaced the disks. The CV joint axle nut is rusted badly, even the threads. Any ideas?

Thank you.

Does this happen everytime you start the car? Can you feel a vibration through the brake pedal?

My 04 CompG made humming sounds everytime I started it and switched gears from reverse to forward. It lasted about 4-6 seconds after I started moving forward, I could also feel it through the brake pedal. After checking everything and finding nothing, I found out that it was the ABS system calibrating itself.

hii,

Everytime I start the car... brake pedal can't say... my foot is usually on or off the gas when it happens. Sometimes it will happen sooner and other times later..

I think I feel it in the steering more... I'm still not 100% sure

Yes, I could feel it through the steering wheel as well. Mine did it from the day 1st day I drove it, same place every morning when I left for work and every night when I left work heading home. I didn't notice it much other than those times, it might have done it other times too, but once I got used to the noise and the vibration I didn't notice it as much.

It's the ABS brake system doing a self check when you first drive off.

@Dsj11106, yup sounds just like it, I notice after a quick restart, like shut off car, wait 2 mins, and start up again... the sound will appear quicker than before...

So there's no way to mute these things hehe

Yes

I guess you could pull the ABS fuses ......

BUT, I would guess the ABS light on your dash will be more of annoyance than the 10 seconds your seeing at start up.

I've been having this issue too. "hitnf" posted a link with GPONA to this thread. Here is what I posted which lead me here: post409815.html#p409815

I've only had it happen a few times in reverse. What really bothers me is that while in bumper-to-bumper (stop-n-go) traffic it will hum/rubbing noise w/ the low traction DIC message. It feels like the car wants to cut off. And yes, I feel it in the brake pedal.

ABS self test huh? What a stupid idea. Better yet, what a poorly executed idea.

Any way to be certain that my GP is doing a self test?

As far as I know the ABS self test only happens at startup, so if you're feeling it while driving then you have another problem like a bad hub sensor.

Any way you recommend testing for bad hub sensors? Unplug it, ignore the warning lights it causes b but see if the same symptoms occur?

EDIT: Never mind, I found this: http://www.ehow.com/how_7617532_test-wh ... ensor.html
