I just got my car. Its a 2000 gtp with only 43k on it. When its really cold outside, like 9 degrees, and the car isnt warmed up yet the car will not go into 4th gear. When the car is partially warmed up i can hit the performance shift button and the car will go right into 4th gear. When the car is completely warmed up it goes into 4th, but after it goes in to 4th the rpms will move around a tad for a few seconds before it settles in.

Also if the car is all warmed up and i'm crusing at 60 in 4th and i take my foot off the gas and then put it back on it always goes into 3rd and then has to shift back down to 4th.

What is the problem?

are you sure its not just the converter not locking up? when its cold out and i start driving, 55mph is around 2300 rpms, but once its warm ir drops to 1500. thas because the torque converter locks up.

the other thing also sounds more like the torque converter than anythign else. when the converter locks or unlocks it can "feel" like the car is shifting gears, when its not.

torque convertor won't lock up unless it is in the range of 30-130* C.

Yeah, that sounds like fairly normal operation, really. It needs to come up to temp before it will lock up the torque convertor. If you were to run the shifter back in to "3," I bet you would feel it downshift.
