I've got 70k miles on my car.

Just got new tires.  New plugs and wires are next.

I figure that I may as well change the trans filter and fluid.  Not going to do a flush, just going to drop the pan and refill.

I'm going to use a Wix filter with Amsoil synthetic ATF since I can get a 12 quart case of the fluid for $80.

Will I feel any difference?

I think the manual said 75k was the normal schedule for this.  But I'm in a mood to work on the car so I may as well knock it out sooner than later.

I've read of people having problems with their trans and they changed the fluid and then their trans worked fine. It's a 50/50 if you'll notice any changes. Oil breaks down from heat and doesn't lub as well so some fresh oil wouldn't hurt.

I would go with a shift kit from ZZP. If you order it with the new Dex VI fluid then I think the total is like $70 shipped to your door. Then when you have the pan down to change the fluid and filter take another 10 minutes to install the shift kit.

The Amsoil stuff is Dexron IV and VI compatible.

x2

A shift kit will only prolong the life of your trans clutches.

I have 70,000 km on my car. I want to put royal Purple in it.

I have the same question as Edmond. Is it compatile with the oil I have in it now? Its still stock, no mods to it, still factory oil in it.

And what benifits will i get from a zzp shift kit?

thanks in advance

They prevent the clutches from slipping and burning

A shift kit extends the life of the trans? I thought it was harder on it.

A shift kit makes your shifts quicker and firmer. As a result, it increases the life of the soft parts (quicker shifts = less wear on clutches) but can put more stress on hard parts.

yeah i was gonna say, cause zzp states on the page for the shift kit that it does put more wear on the harder parts, which who knows maybe your tranny will like it and drive fine, or maybe your tranny will be pissed and screw you. just skip the shift kit and use royal purple and stay on the trans filter maint.

Don't use Dexron VI in your tranny, it is meant for tighter tolerance transmissions. Stick with Dexron III and you will be just fine.

if you just do a pan drop you should be fine. it's when peaple get a power flush done is when the tranny dies.

and there is a TSB saying to use dex VI in all transmissions from 1997+

I will agree with you that you shouldn't use it in older trannys. I have seen many times where the tranny leaked really bad after Dexron VI was put in an old tranny. For some reason the seals can't handle it. In new tranny's it is fine.
