What is considered a safe temperature for your Tranny? Because I been hearing 200 is bad but my car gets up there very quickly. Operating temperature for me around town and free way appears to be around 160-180 and If i get on it I find very quickly I end up over 200 and im worrying about cooking my Tranny. I also live in TX so during the summer operating temperature is 180-198ish. Do I need some kind of trans cooler or something? Thanks guys.

my reg is is around 180ish as wel (as long as it's not cold AF) light right now , i would say 200 is safe, about 210 i believe your fans turn on stock, or at least mine do, it'll hit like 210 (bunch of traffics hard driving ect) and then rop to about 190/200, so i'd say your fine cause that stock controlled if your worried about it they do make trans fluid coolers, but i wouldn't worry about it

when Overkill tuned my car along with the benefit of having a much better performing car my trans temps dropped about 10-15 degrees because he tweaked the shift points and pressures and whatnot.

*edit* temps are in the 180-188 range now.

If it gets up to 220 then you need to start to worry. If yours is at 200 it's fine.

Even if I get on my tranny hard it never sees over 195 even on hot days. However, my last trans, before it went was running fine and was just as cool, so there is always the chance it will just go without warning. My current trans never sees over 195, but I have noticed some slipping lately. It is overdue for the regular fluid/filter change though, this could be it.

What is a good minimum temp? I had a leaky metal line so I bypassed the radiator to an external trans cooler. I see about 160 during the winter, but it take about 15 minutes of driving to get there.

160 is good for the winter time.
