I was trying to remove it so I could remove the control arms only to find out later on that all I had to do was hammer at the ball joint to remove it..

So I messed up the threads when I was hammering at the CV joint thread. I was told to use a tap and die or thread file.

PLZ help I am driving around with out a CV nut on only relying on the rust that is hold it together.

Most likely you mushroomed the head of the stud and a tap and die wont do much to help just go buy a new axle next time you are gonna use a hammer on a threaded surface leave the nut on so its flush whit the stud and then hit it will prevent mushrooming

driving around without the nut wont hurt anything except for the axle/hub. even if the axle pulled out of the hub (which is not very likely) it would just strip the splines on the hub/axle.

and as beau said, you will need a new axle since you most likely mushroomed the end of it.

GREAT! If feel like a complete idiot right now... I had a feeling about this, but I did it anyways. The price of learning the hard way I guess. What I don't understand is why didn't the axle come out of the hub has easy has the other side did. It was REALLY stuck together.

Well I guess it a good time to upgrade the Axle to the HD ones anyways and I may has well get a new hub too just in case.

ok, well I'm going to try a thread file since I really didn't screw up the threads that badly. Wish me luck!

I agree with thelongone here.
The only thing that holds the bearing together is the axle nut, and without it the whole wheel will just fall off. I know because I have seen it happen many times, and have towed many cars for this reason. You should be able to buy a die the right size and just repair the old threads, or even use a dremel to grind the mushroom off. There should still be plenty of good threads to have a good bite on the nut.
