Here are images from a ZZP trans I bought from a member on clubgp for $1500 or something a few months back. Getting ready to finally install it with new build. So I am throwing on an aluminum pan and here is what I find:

A couple months earlier I pulled the diff and cover:

I did not take pics of the diff itself. But several gears were chipped here and there. However, I was told that an old diff was thrown in after a failed diff from Intense was removed. So I had no way to know if that damage was prior. I installed my diff and cover from trans I removed from my car.

I pulled the filter and it was pretty clean, surprisingly. Some magnetic dust basically on the input side, nothing on output. The main carnage in the pan is the pieces of the missing bearing from the diff housing assemble. Some maybe from the gears?

Now what else should I do to this damn thing before installing and crossing fingers? I obviously am installing a new filter. Converter is new as well. Any thing else I should take apart? I am imagining most of the chips went through the hole from the diff to the pan, where the ZZP squirter goes through. Hoping it did not fill the trans. Since I only found dust inside the filter..........I am thinking that is a reasonable assumption.

And do you suppose this could have went totally undetected by the guy I bought this from? Seems to me this would have been making a hell of a noise when car was moving. Obviously I am pretty pissed at the moment here.

UPDATE
I pulled the housing that contains the pistons/springs. I contained the oil in a clean pan and disassembled it. I found no traces of metal of any kind. Even ran a magnet through the fluid and the housing and got nothing. So I am crossing fingers, and putting it all back together hoping it all was contained in the diff housing, pan, and filter.

I also bought a magnetic plug to check the fluid in a few days after driving, assuming this will drive.

My instincts told me not to buy something major like that used. But there was a member who needed money demodding....and I who needed a built tranny....I guess I should have knew better. Outside of saving some money, I thought I was helping someone out, so it was win, win. Guess not, and why you should listen to your gut.

The shit in the pan was mainly steel including the missing bearing from the oem diff and gears in the diff cuz 99% of it stuck to a magnet. Also though, the housing got chewed up as you can see, along with the speed sensor. Now he did have the Intense unit F up. I did not find anything in the servo/piston housing when I disassembled that. So I am thinking it all stayed in the pan or got caught by the filter. I do not have time to tear it apart.
I just set the engine trans back in the car today and still have tons to do before going back to work Tues.

I am quite concerned over why this happened to the oem diff though. Was in installed incorrectly, something else incorrect that is going to cause me an immediate problem........etc. I should have never bought a used trans. That is the real issue. You just can't trust people on high dollar items like this. Lesson learned.

Magnets cannot pick up bronze or aluminum material.

I would have never used that trans unless a complete overhaul was done.

Were you told that before, or after you bought it?

Regardless...OUCH, that tore that transmission a new one.
