I swapped my trans out for a ZZP unit and the shop that did the work gave me my old one back. Is there a way I can verify that the trans they gave me is the one off my car?? You guys can call me paranoid, but he had several 3800s and none were a GTP with the HD trans. I want to make sure that I'm sending the correct unit back so I can receive the full core refund and not the partial non-HD one.

I poked around a bit and couldn't find this question answered, so point me in the right direction if I'm a dirty reposter.

Thanks!

You really should have gone to a shop that you could trust first of all. Or at least have gotten a good reference to.
I guess what you could do is ask ZZP if the tranny had any identifiable marks on it to make sure that you got your new tranny in the car.

These sort of thing do happen, I have a friend who had the same situation happen to him with his Civic.

There are stampings on the tranny housing that pertain to what model car it came in, im not sure if it gets down to details.

There has to be info somewhere on how to x-reference the RPO code to a casting mark.

I'm in the Navy and I move around ALOT. So it's hard to really find a good place (for anything it seems.) I've asked for recommendations and the place I went to was the best in town. I really am just being a little paranoid. Pontiac here in town is absolutely useless. I gave them every number on the trans and they couldn't do anything with it.

Thanks! I'm about to go buy groceries so I'll PM them this evening. The only one I have written down is the one off the metal, white tag: 24222051 The only good Pontiac did was give me this number: 89059900. They 'guessed' that was the comp g number. They said they had four numbers but that the one above was the "most likely".

WhiteDevil,

I called a Chevy dealer and they helped out. They matched my number to my car and were much more knowledgable. I appretiate the help.

the RPO decoder is pretty cool. I've never even thought to search for that stuff before. I was looking up RPO codes that are on my sticker, but not listed in the service manual.
