Tired of dealing with the high tranny temps on my 2006 GP GXP. 228* after 45 minutes of highway driving is a bit ridiculous.

I've got a B&M transmission cooler on the way along with enough Dex6 to "forward flush" (versus a reverse power flush) and do a fluid/filter change. Is there anything else that can/should be done??

228* without beating on it even?

Hopefully that flush and transcooler will help. This may be a long shot but how are your coolant temps?

The last time my transmission was rebuilt was due to the same symptoms you are having. One of the bearings was worn so the transmission fluid was not getting all the way to the gears thus causing to high temps. $1800 rebuild.

Coolant temps are fine. ~200* with (I'm assuming here) the stock 192* thermostat. The coolant gets to about 210*-ish when the tranny starts getting hot.

Blackwood, I'd like to hear how you got to the point of _knowing_ that a bearing was bad. I bought my GXP used, but I do have a warranty. Yes, the whole transmission is covered under it, so if I need to get a rebuild, please tell me how to get to the point of a mechanic telling me so.

I love the car. "Bob" has ~130k miles and does run great - high tranny temps excluded.

Took it to a couple of different shops who both came up with the same diagnosis. I believe they ran pressure tests at different points.

Wouldn't hurt to throw a 180 tstat on + small tune adjustment for fan turn on.

Mine was going to 233* before I had a full rebuild three weeks ago or so. According to the
mechanic, it was the same issue as Blackwood.

Just to add to this thread ive noticed that driving around my temps have been getting over 200 degrees. not to high highest reading yesterday was 206 and The car was driving smoothly and nicely. IDK if I should be concerned at all but Im keeping an eye on it. Last week it was a little slow shifting from park to drive and slammed into gear once cause i started giving it gas before it was fully engaged. You guys think i should take it in for dealership work? i have a warrenty for a while longer or just wait and see if it epic phails? is 206 -210 ok? what are normal temps for freeway cruising and town driving? Also im in Texas it reachs 104 almost every day and yesterday when i noticed this it was 93 and this was about 8 in the evening could just be a hot car?

I think you answered your own question. Mine will do the same thing if it is hot out, or if i do alot of city driving.

I've never had my car do that, even on 100+ days. I would check the fluid first. Get up to operating temp, park on flat surface, set ebrake, engage between gears, then check fluid level. If it is ok, I would go to dealer just in case. Better safe then sorry to be out of a free transmission. My 1st transmission gave me no warning before it went. It was shifting fine until I got into it one day and it wouldn't engage into drive. Back then, I rarely checked my trans fluid. I now make it a very frequent thing I check.

I check my fluids tranny oil etc once a week at the local car show just to make sure its all not burning or looking funny. And with school its a huge pain to take it to dealershit and have them mess with it. Just wanted to know if those where any red flags.

Even if its major inconvenience it may be worth it. Got any other form of transportation? Bus, bike, walking, camel?

I could always try it but its a huge pain i have to get my dad to stop work and follow me to the dealership then take me home then i have to find some way to get 15 miles to the campus down the freeway then back home for a few days while my car is worked on/ checked out. And im out a deductable any way for time spent diagnosing or checking.

x2. I'd get it looked at just because you had that stutter issue. You can't take a bus or anything like that? Whenever my car is in shop I take the bus.

The test that was done to my car that determined the problem was done in a couple of hours one afternoon.

The test that was done to mine was a full, WOT run from 0 to 75. The
issue was very obvious: a 1/2 second of no power between gears.
(To be fair, I then invested $900 to have Aamco pull the tranny and give
me a quote... the $900 was then applied to my final bill.)

With the issues I had with high temps before my transmission blew, and with what these guys are saying, I'd honestly suggest a transmission rebuild.

My transmission foobar'd in just about every way it could because I waited when I didn't have the funds. Trust me...a rebuild would do wonders.
