My 98 GTP is being stupid on me. The button that you have to press to go out of park doesn't wanna work. I have to fight with it. It will eventually work but it's not easy. This is with the brake pedal shoved all the way down. It's really annoying the hell out of me but I don't have a lot of money to work with. Replacing the fuel pump on my 87 Camaro is gonna drain me till i can get this reenlistment knocked out. Anyone have any ideas on this? thanks in advance

Yeah I think so. I think that's what it's called. The button that you have to push to pull it out of park

If your talking about what I think you are then my stupid car does she same thing. But I broke my shift lock button so I have to stick a key or some kind of object into it. Does it happen all the time or just sometimes? Mine only happens sometimes. If I go to pull it back and it dont work I wait a couple seconds and try it again.. then sometimes it works. When it don't work it makes like a clicking sound..? Right? lol

The solenoid in the shifter on the bottom is more than likely the problem. You can get it out of park by pressing down the Park release button that is on the right side of the shifter. There is a tap covering it just pull that up and get a nail pen tooth pick and press it down and the way you go.

Thats what I do. I looked into getting mine fixed they told me they had to replace my whole shifter.

That's not too bad. the expensive part (at least for me) is the shifter. I can put that one on myself i just don't have the money for the part at the moment.

Ok now the shift lock won't turn back on when I park my car. So now I can't take the damn key out of the ignition. Still waiting on the damn army to reimburse me for what I had to spend to get to my Annual Training a few weeks ago and I don't have a lot of spare money at the moment. ugh. any way to get it where I can take my key out? when i pushed that "shift lock release" button to the side of the shifter it never helped btw. Course I'm afraid that when I can get my key out I won't be able to get the damn thing out of park ever again. luckily I have keyless so I just unhooked the key from everything and am just doing it that way for now so i can still keep it locked. extremely frustrating. I'm gonna call some of the junkyards around here see if they have one with the performance shift button

I have spare perf shift shifters if need be. Not sure if that's the issue, but if so, it's a simple fix

I'm fairly certain it's the shifter I just wanna make sure I keep my performance shift button use that's what I meant by that.
