Got had my trans replaced under warranty back in dec/jan an about a month later the trans temp seems to jump around after it warms up and passes the norm temp of 185+ some like in the 1000's and down to -38 so idk.. now its been happening sooner and it does in drive an definitely qwiker in manual mode. Also after this on occsaion it shift alot harder then normal but goes back to normal within a couple min. I havnt takin it in to the dealer yet cause i dont wanna hassle my parents about using a car at the moment since one of there is in for work. I do have a warranty on it the 3yr 100k

Must be the transmission temp sensor. Your 185 temp sounds about right, mine will sometimes cruise up to 198 or so if im bootin on it.

P0713 is a TCM code. It indicates that the ATF sensor is reading too high a temperature. This will occur if the sensor wiring is shorted to ground or the sensor itself is grounded.

I would def say something is wrong with the sensor or wiring.

Your temps sound fine, just the sensor.

well i just dropped it off this morning and they say the temp sensor is bad, they are over nighting a new sensor an doing a trans service as well. Im gonna ask if a external trans cooler will void my warranty to help cool it too.

I have heard that there is no need for an aftermarket trans cooler. These transmissions never get hot enough to do damage, only damage comes from hard part failure.

Sometimes in the summer months my trans temp will reach into the 200-230 range.
Are you saying that temps this high will not damage anything?
What is the boiling point of the fluid?

I put a nice transmission cooler on my build; it helps, but it really doesn't need it. I personally bought mine as another route of "insurance" and "hope" to make sure I'd never have the transmission issues I had before I got a rebuild.

as tom said (allthough not the "right" problem) the converter dont lock up in the car and depending on driving it will get as high as 210* (pushing it on the highway) i slow down a bit and it cools off, it is the selinoid as it will try to lock every so often but not consistantly, and this is not the same converter that was in the car, this is one i bought new and used in my other car and it worked fine, but does the same thing that tom's was doing to the letter. i am gonna add a small cooler, just because knowing that heat is a number one killer of a trans (right after more power than it was designed for) i will keep it cooler. i had heard of a trans getting too hot but have yet to hear of one failing from being toooo cool.

no only issue with too cool is the fluid gets to think and can blow out seals but that is like below 30* for extended periods of time going full line presser. this is why the factory cooler goes through the rad. it acts as a fluid heater in the winter so you do not damage the trans with to thick of fluid
