Would this get rid of some "weak link" problems? I think it's stronger, right?

I don't know if they would bolt up or not, but if it does I'm sure someone could tune the PCM to accept it being there.

The 4t65e is a weak trans too, so it wouldn't really solve anything...

Wait, am I reading this correct? Or are you asking if you could put a 4t80 into a car with the 4t65

If I recall, they're in the same/similar casing. I'll check it out tomorrow for ya if I remember

The 4T80E is a MUCH bigger transmission. I don't know about the six speed cars, though.

Ok I know that the 4T80 is bigger but is it able to hold Hp and torqe better than the 4T65E-HD

Actually, Joe is right... Here's a visual reference

From the looks of it, the bellhousing would match up but for sure you'd need a shorter axle on atleast the passenger side. Not sure about the trans mount though

If I remember correctly someone on the Bonneville site swaped his 65-hd for a 80. But I can't seem to find the post right now.

In a Bonneville, it is less of a challenge. That chassis has a bigger engine bay. The W-Body cars have more space concerns.

It looks like the case would clear. Only issues i'm seeing are custom cooling lines, and atleast one axle. Trying to find a pic of the mounting braket to see if it is in the same possition at the 4T65

guess what? they can hold up to 600hp stock. the sts with the turbo in the front bumper blew his, but beefed it up and i think he's ruuning strong again. and its a 4spd rwd uses a 6l60 i think

and power depends on vin. vin 9 had 300 from 97-05 then the nvh took it to 290ish the vin y had 275 and lucernes and bonnies had different numbers along with aura which had 250 iirc but it is a good trans imho

If it's a 4 speed, it would have to be the 4L60. Not sure what year STS it is, but to my knowledge (for rwd n*'s) there's the 4L60, 5L50, 6L50, or 6L80

Also, these are Longitudinal mounted transmissions, the 4T65/4T80 being for transverse mounted applications. Unless you're planning on fabbing up a RWD setup, than there's no point mentioning. Me personally, all Hydra-matics are weak. Unfortunately for FWD, there isn't much alternative than just doing your best to build up the internals

dont think the rwd come in anything less than a 5spd,our cts has a 5l40 and some sts came with that if it had a 3.6. n* sts came with 5l50 awd. but the stsv came with a 6l80. older ctsv had t56. i was sleepy when i typed that.

and this was the car i was talking about

What about the TAP shift? From what I understand, GTP and Comp G transmissions are not interchangable because of the TAP shift functions. Since the GXP's have TAP, it seems like it would be the same issue.

Keep in mind, the 4T80 was used long before there was a GXP
