I'm thinking about putting an LSD on the car when I do the transmission. Is it much work to have this part swapped? I know Intense makes one, apparently on their 3rd revision since they had to correct some issues.

I do not drag the car, but I'd like to be able to spin both wheels and get a little more oomph out of the car!

Any downfalls with using one? I tried googling it, but nothing good came up.

Is there such a product for our cars? What's the difference with going with the latter option?

The transmissions are essentially the same with some minor differences. You could go intense but I have not heard of a quaife ever having any problems.

I'm not buying a tranny... I have all the big parts that I bought from ZZP, so I thought when I have the work done, this may be a good option. I didn't realize these things run up to $1600 (once I did a little digging). Maybe I'll just forget about that!

I had an intense LSD in my old 97, it wad the 1st gen. I never had any problems with it, not sure what's involved for installing. You might contact TRANNY MAN, he'd be able to tell you.

No if i'm sitting strait and spin the tires they both will break loose and then one will catch traction and the other one will spin and i talked to the trans shop who rebuilt my trans and they said that its the same as an lsd diff

well then its either not stock or the guy had no clue what he was talking about, because the 4-t65e did not come with an lsd. the only other possible stock diff would come with the 4t65e-hd which is the hd differential.

if these cars were lsd equipped, why would people spend 1200 for a differential that comes stock? id just go to morads and ask for a new differential. but thats not the case..

I have the GM Racing Torsion diff that was modified by Dynotech before Eric passed away and all I can say is it puts a smile on my face everytime I nail the gas in the middle of a turn. It was money well spent if you can part with $1600.00+.

as far as i know the 4T60e/HD and the 4T65e/hd all four of those tranniees never had LSD my bonne has the L67 with the 4T60E-HD trans and in a straight line both spin in a turn the inside spins. a true LSD would spin both weather in a turn or not both wheels spin. so no matter if you are HD or not its not a true LSD so if you are out for smoke shows and good hole shots in a drag then part the money and get the intense LSD this also will lengthen the life of your trans if you are huge into burnouts as when the car does finally grip it puts huge stress on the sungear and diff.

as for install as far as i know you jack the car up take the right wheel off and the splash guard too then you remove the half-shaft then the side of the trans that the half-shaft came from there should be 4-6 bolts (cant remember the exact amount) around it that will expose the differential it should slide off the output shaft then you slide the LSD onto the output shaft and reverse the steps

basically an afternoon job if you are mechanically inclined and have the tools to do so.

There are only two LSD's for our cars that are worth a damn and the Intense LSD is not one of them. Either the GMR Torsion Diff or the Quaife(sp?). There is a good chance the the Intense LSD will shorten the life of your tranny. ;-)

Thanks for the info guys. I had my eye on the Intense unit due to the price, figured it'd be an alright thing to add on (not much more saving involved). The other units are insanly priced, so I will probably just dismiss the idea altogether. =(
