So I pulled the car into the garage this last saturday before snowpocalypse 2011 was supposed to come. Did the oil/filter, replaced a leaky exhaust gasket, swapped the winter rubber on and finally installed the new rear sway bar endlinks. Thought the roads were quite slick but it was the trans spinning away and not the tires :banghead:. It just rolls in D, slips easily in 1st and seems to move ok in 2nd. D doesn't feel like it's grabbing at all when selected. Reverse is fine. Worst part is the trans has less than 3yrs on a zzp rebuild . Did the forward band go kaput already? Fluid looks good on the dipstick, haven't dropped the pan yet and I think I'll just leave that to the trans shop. 2004 comp g. that's been running on a zzp 1.0 pcm for ~10 months.

Sounds like the forward band. I had exactly the same symptoms. Just got back on the road a few weeks ago.

This is where mine was broken.

Blackwood- did they have to replace much else while they were in there? I understand it's one of the last parts to come out so the labor will be high, just wondering what else if anything will have to be replaced. I only drove it enough to warm up the trans twice to check the fluid since it happened so I'm hoping that the band is the only problem.

It all depends on what they find. In my case, I still drove it from time to time for short distances when I needed it and just to keep it running smooth. It was laid up for 4 months because I didn't have the money. So because I drove it in that condition, I scorched the clutches. So the band, clutches and a bearing had to be changed on mine. Everything else looked fine. I was given prices ranging from $2100 to $3500 for the rebuild. I ended up finding a semi-retired transmission guy with 45 years experience that did it for $1600.

if you stop driving it now you could probably get away with just the band that would be a bout $900 with labor. but depending on miles you would be better off getting a full rebuild or swapping out the transmission

I almost have to agree with tom. I still don't baby that trans and (when the motor's not hurt) works like a charm. (All but the converter lockup solenoid)

Well, fwiw i've only had the pcm in since about january this year. The catted DP I have kept throwing the P0420 code so I got the pcm with that code deleted. Just going to get it rebuilt locally and take it easy until I find a G8 that I want  .
