okay as most know the transmission in my 97 went out , I just want to verify all the parts required to swap to the newer trans , wiring, and pcm. as in are pinout different that I have to change anything major in that area or just swap trans, wiring, and pcm to match. I will have a box tune put in the pcm so not to worried about that just wanting to verify all the steps before I get in that far. I want to know that once I start that I can just swap it out and be done in one shot.

I have a 97 gtp trans on hand that I will rebuild to put in and most of the harness from a newer car (yes I know it will take both the engine and trans harnesses to complete this) and what I don't have I can get from a local yard as well as the pcm ando I will just make another drive to zzp and have a tune put in.

Man will I be glad when this swap is over and I won't have to worry about that again for quite a while

Just to clarify I want to ditch the 97 style pcm, trans, ect for 99 & up style.

I'd imagine axles are different...isn't the '97 the messed up year that uses the 4T60E still?

Woohoo. I got a trans and a 97 best of both worlds? No!

It will be easier to switch to the 98+ everything in the long run. I may have the good trans but I'm going to switch to a 99 engine and trans just because

i think the toughest part will be wiring physicaly it fits. it will bolt up to the engine

you could just swap in a whole engine bay harness from a 98+ with the PCM. issue i see is the traction and ABS would no longer work as the 97 was the only year fro that style ABS pump and controler

i will see if i can find a wiring diagram for a 97 GT and a 98 GT

-- Mon May 09, 2011 8:35 pm --

man wish i still had access to alldata the ford database does me no good lol

ok here is the latest. i remembered that i met a guy while i was in the prime of my 97' that had done a 97gtp swap into a 97 gt. (same green just a 2dr.) so i call a buddy of his that i know and get in touch with him. and he sipmply said that he took the motor/trans/harness and pcm and put it all in his gt and all worked as it should.

so with this being that i sold my 97 gtp harness, i will get another and try just swapping everything and see what happens.. the only downfall for me is that i would like to rebuild the trans i have to go in before i do as it has 150,000 on it. but it "seems" to have been working ok before the wreck (the car i parted out for everything.) so i even though i would like to rebuild it i think with it being a working piece i will just put it in for now and take my chances. now to get this thing tore apart and get the other harness and put it back together.

i will update as i have progress and will probly change the title of this thread and do a build progress/ write up thread on this.

-- Fri Jun 10, 2011 5:56 am --

if this goes as smoothly as just swapping, then this could open a whole new world for the 97gt guys, just need a good supply of 97 gtp harnesses

well i should be paying for another harness (because my dumb ass sold the one i had) then it will just be a wait for it to get here and swap it all out. i will try to get the car inside and start getting the motor and trans out so all i have to do is get the harness and swap them and reinstall every thing. will change the title of this thread and do a build log/results on this as it happens, (or close to it). wish me luck. (on both sucsess, and that the used trans holds out for awhile. preferably till next summer)

well i found a killer deal on a harness. and paid for it today. so a few days and it should be comming in. gonna get some things reorginized from the build of the 01' and get the car inside and get the motor and trans pulled out of the car. and as soon as the harness gets here (if it dont arive before) start putting it back together,. i will take a few pics where i can wont be much till my new memory car for my phone gets here though.. (stupid 2 gb.. upgrading to the max the phone can take. 32 gb !! now thats what I'm talkin bout.)

it will be kinda odd having both cars running and drivable at once. not something i have been able to do yet, as the pump shaft was broken in the 97 when i got the 01, and after i got the trans fixed in that the motor was hurt in the 01, fixed that just after the trans went out again in the 97. stupid cars. will be fun having both my "GT's" running tho, one "stock" l67 gtp setup and one topswap, cammed l 36 setup.. i will beable to drive one then the other and really feel the difference from nearly stock to fully modded. good times.

Your car should be quicker. As you will do rockers at some point and will have headers so your 00 should be a little quicker than the 97 and the 01 will be a beast in comparison

well not a ton of progress yet, i found myself with a lack of motivation (and lacking the new harness to finish the job) so only a little got done and again, a suprising picture that looks more like a flashback to me than progress.

got the hood, wire harness unhooked and a few little things out of the way for now.
Image

and i did make a little progress on another project i was playin with... should look good on the car.

i have two very good pairs of tires i will put on them and run them for the summer then, ironicly put the snowflakes back on for the winter.

Image

and after stealing the center caps out of the snowflakes (and replacing them with the crappy silver abs caps.)

Image

and here are some interesting things i found while out in the junkyard (my dad needed to go and i went with to reserch some other project stuff)

i thought, wft is maters car doing here?? then i relized that it couldnt have been, as there is no way he would have let the tire iron go with it..

Image

and then i found something a little more interesting a 98 ssei. has a bad bottom end knock but drove in the yard(and that i am getting a "few" things off.) this is a little uncommon to find a superchared anything in the local yards. and even though they are 16's i really like the wheels, (set of 4 even, just missing center caps)

Image

-- Fri Jun 24, 2011 3:12 pm --

and i think i will have some awsome things for my version of the wheel tabels to add to the man cave.
