My gf's car refuses to upshift while cruising on the highway. At first we thought it could have been that the shift points were too high for it to upshift..that's not the issue. We had the shift points returned to stock. I'm thinking it's the 4th gear clutch shaft that failed, is there something else I should look into?

If it won't go into 4th, I'm willing to bed either the clutch or the clutch shaft has failed. Drop the trans pan and look for crud/shaft pieces. If you find either, you're probably looking at a rebuild.

Clutch shaft is what I was thinking...don't have the money for a rebuild...heard you can replace the shaft without a complete rebuild. I know it's a better idea due to metal shavings, but we're just college kids.
