I was wondering if it could be done? there is a wrecked comp-G at my local yard and was wondering what it would take to swap in the tap shift trans in to my car and making tap shift functional.

I am pretty sure it would be more time consuming then it is worth but just curios

Can it be done, yes. Will it require a lot of tears, blood, toil, and sweat, YES. The tapshift is controlled by the TCM, which the 97-03 cars don't have, because the ECM/TCM are integrated into one and called the PCM.

You can't use a 04-05 pcm in a 03 or earlier.

tap shift is useless IMO i never use it. its too slow to react. when youre at wot and using the tap shift it hesitates and sometimes doesnt shift on the the first press.

the overkill tapshift revisions made a noticeable difference in the way the tapshift performs.

still dont use tapshift though.

agreed. i never use tap shift unless i'm showing it to someone. i even have it tuned, and i can't stand racing with tap shift.

oh and btw, they didn't make comp-g's in 06 ;)

I like using TapShift... I don't have any problems WOT on the turbo.... If you don't really use it, you need to practice. There are little quirks you'll get accustomed to. It feels like it hesitates if you shift in too low of an RPM for the gear you've selected. It's quite noticeable if you put it in 4th when doing something like 70KM/H. You'll feel it shift, the RPM will surge until you hit 78KM/H then it finally feels like you're in 4th.

Give it another go... it's fun!

Well for shits and giggles i looked up the wiring schematic for a 2001 grand prix transmission and one from a 2004 Comp G and well any thing short of swapping the whole harness will not work. the PCM, engine harness, tranny harness, steering wheel, steering column, and the one thing the shocked me the steering rack will also have to be switched (has to do with magna steer or something) same the BCM and dash wiring. So ya if I did it I would have a 04 with a 01 body.

Actually, my custom axle has no problems. It was just the welded one that kept braking.

well i might be doing the swap any ways but not the the way this thread had in mind the local chevy dealer has a 2004 Black Comp-G (the dealer only has it listed as a GTP it is de-badged but has tap shift and the suspention) they only want 4,500 for it :???: has less miles then my car. hmm we will see.
