live in indiana and it gets pretty cold here in the winter....but the question of the hour.....When i coldstart my car and put it in drive, and give it gas, my engine will rev up and 2 seconds later my tranny will grab hard and start to move. i really only have the problem when the car isnt warmed up......any ideas.....Maybe i need tranny fluid or something is slipping? shoot me some advice.

thanks all!

let the car warm up before you drive it. youre gonna destroy your engine if you dont. trust me on that. trans is prolly fine. the fluid is just thick when its cold. so let it warm up and it should be fine

When it's cold, I let it run about the time it takes to clear the windows with the scraper (exterior), or if that's not needed 60 seconds is enough.

It is actually designed that way. The computer won't allow line pressure to build when the tranny is that cold, or it could be destroyed. It lets the fluid circulate for a few seconds first. Some new Cadillacs actually take up to 7 seconds. On a cold start you should always wait at least 20 seconds before dropping it in drive, and that is bare minimum. A couple of minutes would be better.

thats the main reason why i use my remote start. i could careless about the heat starting. i do it for the motors sake. then when i go out there i put the key in, set the settings on the heat and start scraping if i have too. or just drive away, but i make sure at least the rpm's are 1k or lower before i start driving. on those real cold starts it will sit at 1500 for a while until it dips back down.
