I searched for a little bit and didnt see anything that could help answer my question.

My trans has been slipping some and also not shifting perfect. I bought the car and the guy said he had replaced the fluids. No im not saying he is lying cause the fluid looked and smelled clean but I would challenge weather he changed the filter or not. So here is my question. Can a filter with 96k miles on it cause me issues? I had the car run on a scanner (not autozone) and it didnt pull any codes for shift solenoids or anything else.

Any help will be awesome

The filter should have been changed. It can cause trouble like what you're talking about. The next question is going to be...did he just pull the pan, or do a flush? Flushes are bad. Pan drops are good.

I learned the hard way. My grand prix used to be dad's (it's an 04 gt2) and it was given to me as a graduation gift. Around 180k or so the transmission started to slip ever so slightly, so my dad took it and got it flushed. Big mistake. Flushing the tranny will actually make it worse. I'd suggest dropping the pan if anything.

Even touching the transmission on a vehicle with a lot of mileage on it could be deadly, although 96k isn't too bad. It's got 226k atm and it shifts hard when it gets hot and will sometimes slip when it comes to a stop.

Best of luck.

I would imagine they either pulled the pan or sucked it out and added new. I highly doubt they changed the filter. It is doing the same thing my lhs did when it had a bad filter. I have a buddy of mine going to change it for me and blow out the lines going into the cooler (no a flush) so if there is any gunk is the lines causing a blockage he can get it out. I hope this is the only issue. It just started a few days ago so I don't think it could be anything major. I will keep my fingers crossed and update as soon as I get the issue figured out.

Ne filter in (old one looked like it had diarrhea). New fluid in and added some seafoam (trans tune). So far so good.
