I have ready several things online saying the GXP struts will fit a 2004 GP GTP Comp G, but only with modifcation.

What is the final say on this?

Yes 2005+ GXP struts will fit WITH modification??

or Yes 2005+ GXP struts will fit straight in WITHOUT modification??

or.....whatch you talkin bout Willis?

Thnks.,

i put 04 gxp struts in my 04 gt

youll hav to check where your sway bars connect and where they connect on the gxp's.. 04s sway bars connected to the struts, but they stopped doing that at some point and switched back to the sway bar connecting to the lower control arms.. other than that, i dont think there are any other differences, but i could be wrong

I ordered the HD bilstein struts for my '04 Comp G. and they fit fine w/o any mods whatsoever. Both front and rear had the mounting tabs for the swaybar endlinks

Hey there! Thanks.

Where did you get your HD Bilsteins from? Are they different or cheaper than the GXP struts from ShopGm Parts?
I got quotes and getting the GXP struts is about $600 more than the Comp gs.

Thanks!

I bought them from allshocks.com here in MA. Turns out they're local to me, I did have to pay sales tax  but they gave me a discount for picking them up  I'm not sure about shopgm parts, but the set I got from allshocks included the dust boots as well. You'll just have to reuse your springs, strut bearings and spring insulator.
edit: I bought the sport shocks, which are firmer than the HD shocks. iirc, the HD shocks are the same as the stock GXP shocks.

Hey there! Great Info!

The Bilstein HDs cost slightly more (from Allshocks) than the CompGs do at ShopGMParts....so I will definitely go for the Bilsteins. However, I thought the Bilstein Sport version is what is on the GXP?? Perhaps I read that wrong somewhere. You have confirmed this?

So how has the Sport version been treating you? Great Handling? Poor Ride?

Thanks!

I have 2004 GP GT2and have Bilstiens sport shocks installed on my car, I called Bilstien and they told me that Bilstein sport shocks are more stiffer that GXP shocks. Even though they are the same shock. The exception is GM wanted Bilstiens to be tuned to GM specs where as the ones (sport shocks) ordered from Bilstien are 15-25% stiffer than the GXP bilsteins. They are tuned to what Bilstien thinks they should be it their specs. Bilstien also makes a comfort shock for these cars. These shocks are expensive i wouldn't recocomend them unless you plan on keeping the car for very long time. The shocks are well made and
they ride nice, but you well feel these if you go over manhole covers and bad road surfaces at moderrate speeds. They are like the KONI stiff shocks that keep the car nice & tight. I have these on my car over a year now and I have no problem.

Thanks for the info, it really has been helpful. I will probably go for the HDs since my vehicle is my daily driver and having a little forgiveness over bumps might be nice besides you are right, they are quite expensive. From what I have read on this site, the GXP struts offer a decent upgrade from my Comp G struts and that is what I am looking for.

Hey there!

Thanks for the info. I saw those previously and had considered getting them, but they have 38K and they have the 2005 springs, which I was told would raise my vehicle height about 1". So I will probably go for the Bilstein HDs which should be the same as the GXPs and are actually cheaper, but I would have to get new springs or use my old ones. I would probably pay a bit more with all that considered including install, but I would be getting new components.

I appreciate the info though!

Just as an FYI....

I contacted AllShocks I was told that the Bilstein HD Struts are 5% more stiff than the GXP struts. I am definitely going for these once the time comes!
