Here is update on my car with the Bilsteins Heavy duty shocks installed on my car:

(1) These wre installed 2 years ago when they first became available form allshocks.com pd 226.00 each...
(2) These shocks are great ... have no issues with them ... makes my car ride very firm & tight..
(3) I also have the upgraded suspension componets that also helps...but still running on 16" rims going for OEM 17" rims
(4) Do I feel the manhole covers and small road ruts and potholes...yea I feel it but hey I can live with it and its not a big deal....These shocks are not that stiff as you think that are. I really have not hit any major potholes...I'm always carefull about that because I'm more concerned about alignments..
(5) I don't recommend these shocks unless you plan keeping your car for lifetime...why pay over $800.00 for shocks plus other charges if you have the hots for another car 2 years down the road...but if you plan keeping your car for a lifetime these are the shocks to get.
(6) Also these shocks are the heavy duty or otherwise known as the "sport shocks"...these are not the Bilstein comfort shocks. I'm also running these HD shocks on the OEM factory stock springs with no issues at all...
(7) These are the part numbers of the HD or "sport shocks:
F4 VE3 F315 HO for the fronts - Heavy duty or known as sport shocks
F4 VE3 F316 HO for the Rears - Heavy duty or known as sport shocks
(8) Unless there are other Bilstein type shocks out there for 04+ GP , the Bilsteins HD/Sportshocks vs Comfort shocks are the only ones that Bilstein makes for our 2004 GP

For the record, Bilstein's "sport shocks" are different than the HD shocks. The sport shocks are shorter and are meant for a lowering spring. The HD shocks are meant for stock springs. So really there are 3 different types of Bilsteins.

1. Bilstein "Comfort" Shocks which is what came with the GXP and are tuned to GM's specs. These are only available through GM.
2. Bilstein HD Shocks which are exactly the same as the "Comfort" shocks but are tuned to Bilstein's specs and are roughly 15% stiffer
3. Bilstein Sport Shocks which are shorter and meant for a lowering spring. I'd imagine these to be just a bit stiffer than the HD shocks.

You are correct , reason I called the HDs sport shocks is that when I got these from allshocks.com there was a label at the ends of boxes that they came in and under the part numbers it said Sport Shocks on them..thus I starting calling them HD sport shocks ....??? Has for the sport shocks themselves Bilstein only makes them for certain cars the last time I checked their site there were a few out there for certain cars.....
IMO These are the best shocks I ever owned...

Are the stock bilsteins off the gxp okay for lowering? What about making them into coilovers?

I don't think I've seen a GP with the HD sport shocks for lowering springs. Sounds pretty good though. Assuming they make those for a w-body. Bilstein is a good brand to have.
