Well after moving to PA I'm trying to get my cars ready for the State safety inspection. So recently I'm getting the dreaded front brake squeal from the right front. They are badly worn and the rotor heavily scored. The left looks like they could go another couple years! What would cause this uneven wear? Oh, almost forgot to say: I have the old SLP Big Rotor upgrade. I think its the same as the F-Body upgrade but not sure.

Are the caliper slide bolts greased up nicely?

More than likely the caliper piston on the right side is stuck so the pads are constantly rubbing on the rotor when you left off the brake pedal. If that's the case you need to rebuild the caliper.

I can say that the slide pins are lubed with brake grease. No problems there. I can also say that I DON'T lube them every 10K. The car has 160K miles and these are a set of calipers from O'Reilley's (sp). I used to travel for work and the OEM pair froze up on me after a long project out of town.

The comment about the piston sticking makes sense. Could it also be a bad hose? In the Neon world their brake hoses are know to fail and act like a check valve, the piston won't retract. But in that case the car will pull pretty noticeably. I just put SS hoses on my '98 Sport.

Thanks for the feedback guys!

Seeing that you replaced the calipers there could be some debris in the hose that's stopping the piston from returning.

Good point about the debris in the hose... maybe I could try a flush and see if that helps.

Part of me wants to do this as cheap as possible. So I could turn the rotors and just get new pads. But then I have also wanted the lighter calipers, and then add new rotors/pads and SS hoses. decisions, decisions...

Worst case scenario, could be an issue in your master cylinder or ABS module. You could have valves in these components not working properly due to contamination; dirt, and other debris. But more than likely, it would be an issue with that caliper and the square cut o-ring that seals the piston and acts to return the piston back to its normal position. It may be weak.

Well I finally took the wheel and brake off this weekend (it was sunny and 70's) and boy am I embarrassed!!! The pad material is down to about 1/32 thick and parts have even worn off  !!! Its down to the backing plate  . And to my further surprise, both inner and outer pads are the same shape. So the caliper is working fine; the wear is even  .

I inspected the pads in July just before I moved to Pittsburgh and with the hills here they just wore right through. The pad "sensor" is worn too, but it made noise when driving and not braking... I thought it was the little sheet metal hat/holder that supports the ABS connector that was rubbing. I did an SLP "Big Brake" upgrade back in 2001 so I just went to the local AutoStoned and got a rotor for a '99 F-body. It fits and seems to work.

Thanks to all that replied.
