Hey guys,
I could use some troubleshooting help from all you long time experts.

About 8 months ago I lowered my 04 GT on SSC springs with stock struts and 18x8 in wheels. The car has 65K miles on it and I installed a set of shortened dogbones afterwards. No problems initially but a couple months ago I started getting a clicking/clunking noise when I turn the wheel while standing still or when going slowly. No clicking or clunking when doing more than 15 mph and no vibration going straight or when under acceleration. I can however, very slightly feel it in the steering wheel while turning it.
Then last week, while turning the wheel first thing in the morning I heard a groaning/creaking noise from the front right wheel area when turning the steering wheel. Keeps up when I turn the wheel back and forth and sounds like a rusty or unlubricated tie rod or ball joint or something.

Anyone got any ideas??

Thanks for the help.

I have a 04GT2. My car also had moaning & groaning noise (few years ago) at approx 30K miles. I checked my PS fluid and found out it was a little low. That noise has now gone away. So I would check your PS fluid.

Has for the other problem..the clicking noise...I have also been getting that. I'm currently at 50K miles and this just started to happen within the last 6 months. I'm only getting a clicking noise, not a clunking noise. And it only happens when I pull up to a fast food drive up window. Other than that the nosie disappears. It's possibe it could be some type of a suspension stress problem. It could be upper front strut bearings. Then again did you modify your front suspension with the big GMPP anti-sway bar with 97-03 WBS lower control arms. This just my opinion. Last resort we might have some type problem with our power steering. Need more pople to shed some light on this clicking sound.

Maybe a CV shaft on its last leg.

my budy had something like that an he said that one day he was driving and the rim flew of because the nuts weren't on tight enough, check the nuts and if not that check your fluid levels and if not, pop the hood and have someone turn the steering wheel while listening to your power steering pump

Sounds like broken/worn strut bearings to me especially if you reused your old strut mounts/bearings when you put the SSC's on. But still could be other things as well but CV could probably be ruled out since this still happens when you're not moving.

Yes, I have an idea what it is. I had this same issue and it sounds like the Rack and Pinion Gear box. The clicking occured just like you stated. I had a local shop place the vehicle on a flat lift and then I could run the engine and turn the wheel while they examined the rack. They said it was coming from the rack assbly gear box and they even got one of the stethoscope things to localize the sound. So....I am in the midst of getting a solution cause I have this feeling that the problem would only get worse. Tried 2 refurbed racks and after both were installed I got a Service Stability and Service Traction Control warnings on the driver info ctr. Could be a rack issue or another issue that occured at the same time. Not sure....heading to the dealership tomorrow. Will provide updates.
