On my 2004 CompG I seem to lose air a lot.. i dont think its the tires but possibly the chrome peeling off the wheel.

Are there any TSBs or any way the wheels can be fixed to stop the leak?

I am very confused. How does losing air in your tires relate to chrome peeling off?

If you are losing air on your tires on certain wheels, you may have a bent rim and air is escaping. I had that on 2 of my OEM rims .....so I got new ones! :)

forget about replacing those rims for free!!! (only if the car is still under original warranty)

They have to be some of the WORSE rims I've ever had (kind of like the look but losing air all the time sucked!!)

You would be better off buying new rims if some of your rims are bent. When I had that issue, it was a pain trying to maintain air in the tires so I decided to get aftermarket rims. Never had any issues after that!

You could indeed get the rims repaired/refinished but the cost of doing that would be about the same as a whole new aftermarket set of wheels. I"m also confused on how the chrome peeling would relate to losing air (apparently Rick's on the same page though). Aluminum wheels do lose air by nature of the metals properties, but usually it shouldn't be a noticable lose. It would make sense if the chrome was peeling off around the beed and maybe is losing air through there. How old are you tires? Dry rotted at all?

the chrome peeling is a symtom of the wheel rotting away. if i take the wheel off, there is so much corrosion in the hub that the wheel is deteriorating. what i dont know is if its the tire or the wheel corrision causing the leak. looking around the internet this is a common issue for this wheel causing pressure loss. the wheels arent bent just losing air and corroding like crazy. i wonder if a tire shop can test if the wheel is casuing the leak. its a slow leak. does anyone else have this problem?

You could always take one of the wheels off the car. Fill it up to max psi and do the "soapy water test" by just splashing/spraying it on the tire and wheel or if you really want to be thorough throw it in a big tub of water and put it completely under water to see if there's any air bubbles coming from somewhere. A shop could also test it, more than likely using this method. That should help at least track down where the leak is coming from.

I wish I could actually find that GM article though. I know it's in my favotires somewhere.

Time to shop around and just get rid of them......They will never be the same......Believe me........Mine are long gone!!!

And if you live anywhere that the SALT the roads, stay away from chrome rims unless you either plan on swapping out winter wheels or putting the car away for the winter!!!

Ditto. Chrome plating isn't cheap and to get the wheels back to "good" condition they would need to be blasted down to bare aluminum.

Just take it to a tire shop and have them run some sealer around the rim....I bought Rick's back in the spring and I had to fill them up 3 times a day but I brought them to the local tire place, they sealed them up and haven't lost any air since....Trust me your rim probably isn't bent..If it was you'd know it

The 04+ chrome 17" t-stars are notorious for the chrome peeling and losing air, but I don't think there's any way to have them replaced under warranty or anything like that.

No way would a warranty company replace the wheels if there was peeling. Peeling probably comes from some neglect in the wheels past (although I could be wrong). Anyone purchase a 04+ grand prix with chrome 17" Tstars and so happen to polish them all the time, yet still see peeling?

Yep, Rick's car is a good example. I know he takes care of his stuff and his stockers started peeling. They all peel, unfortunately. Fault during the plating process, not the fault of any neglect from the owner.

Mine did the same thing. The damn things leaked air around the valve stem. Probably put valve stems in 4 different times but two of the wheels still lost air in that spot. Took the easy way out. Tossed them
