Just had my annual vehicle test (MOT) and was advised that the solid rear brake lines under the car are getting corroded. Have been advised to replace them, but haven't been able to find any part nos, only flexible lines, but don't need those.

Can anyone please tell me if these solid lines are available, or do I need to have them made up from a straight piece of pipe?

May have to get new ones made. I had one bust on my 95 Cutlass Supreme 3 years ago and had Meineke make a new one.

Given your location, it would probably be easier and cheaper to have the lines made locally. But if you would like to see if the factory lines are available, click here for a pic with part numbers: Pontiac - 1998 - Grand Prix - AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION - 1998-1999 W BRAKE LINES/ANTI-LOCK(JL9)

Then copy and paste the part numbers here: http://www.shopgmparts.com

Hope that helps! :occasion5:

Cheers guys!

Will look into getting replacements made locally. Not a serious problem at the moment, just something to be aware of.

Having searched all my usual parts websites I haven't found any replacement lines, so making some up seems the way to go. Thanks!

GM doesnt sell the pre-bent rear brake lines, if you look in the parts lists on Compnine, the rear lines part numbers reference a bulk roll of brake line haha. I'm upgrading my car to ABS, and pulled all of the pre-bent original lines from another car with ABS.

I would say to go to a junkyard and pick up a used line, but I see you live in the UK, and I doubt there are too many w-bodies there. Just have new lines bent and installed. Getting a new line in by the brake booster can be a pain, so cutting and flaring the lines by the firewall will save you 15 bends or so lol.

Thanks for the info. Just got 2 short lines that are starting to get corrosion build-up at the back end of the car, so won't need to go anywhere near the brake booster.
