Good day!

I am going to install my UMI Rear Trailing Arms soon on my '04 GP Comp G and I am looking for tips to make this job easier. I am a relative newbie to all of this so I have a few questions, and in fact, I may make a DIY for this with pictures for other newbies.

1. The first question is where to place the jack stands after I jack the car up? I know where to jack the car up along the frame forward of the rear tires, but where is the best location to place the jack stands?? I really have never seen any good actual pictures of these locations
(minus the schematic from the service manual).

2. What size socket/box wrench do I need for the RTA bolts/nuts?

3. I have read that these bolts can be a bitch to take off.....and I read that I should apply some sort of lubricant prior to taking the bolts off so that they come off easier. Any suggestions on what kind? WD-40? haha (I have a breaker bar just in case)

4. I thought I read something about needing to take some sort of bracket off to get the bolts off, but I did not see anything when I looked at my RTAs. Maybe that was for an older GP?

5. Would it be better to take the tire off for better access?

6. The UMI RTAs came with some grease and I am assuming I apply this to the outside surface of the poly bushing. Correct?

7. After installing the RTAs and loosely tightening them, do I need to take the car off the jack to have the vehicle weight on the suspension in order to properly tighten the bolts?

8. Any other valuable tips?

Your help is much appreciated!

Thanks!

Do take off your rear tires, it really helps out. I placed my jack stand along the frame area- there will be an arrow below your side shirt tell you where to place it. I believe you need a 15mm or 1/2 inch socket, but I forgot- just bring your socket set and try them on. The job was really simple.. bolt off- bolt on.

What Malefic said...don't think too much into it as its really just a bolt off, bolt on procedure. A little panther piss may help loosen those bolts if they're stuck.

Hey there!

I am sorry about being to anal about these things, but it seems that the simple jobs on my car create the most problems and I would rather be prepped for the worse case scenario.

I checked my RTAs and removing the rear bolts of the RTAs should be no problem since I can pull the bolt inboard and there is no clearance problems and there was not a hole lot of rusting. The front bolt will definately require a removal of the bracket so I can slide the bolt out and the bolt looks a bit rusty.

What kind of anti-seize lube should I get? or just anything that Advance Auto offers?

Should I get new bolts and brackets?

Thanks for the help !!

anything an auto parts store is fine, lube helps it reinsert back into the hole without issue. (no homo)

no need to replace the bolts
