Hello I had new struts installed front and rear. When I drive over large or small bumps the rear end will make a clunking noise like something hitting the frame or like a leaf spring that had broken. I took it the the garage and had three mechanics drive it and they can't find anything wrong. Any advise would be great.

That is interesting.... I just had a noise like that make an appearance on my vehicle yesterday. Sounded like it came from the right rear strut/spring area.

Could be a bad strut mount? Did you replace those when you had the struts replaced?

Going with Mike on this one. Strut mounts if you reused them.

could be strut mount, wrong or forgotten mount washer...even a warn end link could cause a clucking noise.

Here would be my checklist:
1) make sure the 3 mount to body nuts, 2 strut to knuckle and end link nuts are tight.
2) Make sure there is a washer under the strut nut...only a tard would forget this but it could happen and would def cause a clunk
3) check for any room between the strut nut and washer...there should be no gap. If so, then try to tighten up. If that doesn't doesn't work replace your mount. For the fronts, the boot comes with a rubber bumper that grabs the piston shaft and keeps pressure against the mount...if the boot is bad you would hear a clunking up front. Rears don't have this type of boot. The boot on the rears just hugs the piston shaft under the mount to keep debris out. A pogo washer would fill the void created by the warn mount but isn't the best solution...unless you lowered the rear and didn't pogo washer it.

I can post pics if you need them...let me know. Noises can be frustrating but I'm sure it's something simple...good luck.

This just happened to me the other day so something for you to check (07 Grand Prix SE 40,000 miles). Driving the wifes car I noticed some rattling/clunking from the rear end so i took it to where we bought it and they said the rear stabilizer bar links were clunking. I ended up replacing both links with raybestos 545-1403 and it cured the problem. The joint was definitely sloppy, which surprised me since the car only has 40,000 miles. It may be hard to notice without actually taking the link off, but something to check for.

Mine has been making a clunking noise in the front for some time. I really should get it looked at...
