Hey there,

I have an issue with my "Maganasteer" component and I need some opinions. While driving slowly or in park and I turn the steering wheel to the left or the right, I get a very loud POP. This happens whether I turn the Steering wheel to the left or the right and it is very loud outside the car and you can feel it in the wheel a bit. Sounds like a metal on metal sound. I had my local shop look at it and we put it on the lift and they said it sounds like it was coming from the steering gearbox, otherwise known as the rack and pinion or Magnasteer ( I think i have all of them covered..lol) I know I had this issue before, but it was not quite as extreme and I know there was a bulletin about it. The bulletin does not really explain much except it could be the i-shaft boot rubbing against something.

Has anyone else experienced this?? and how did you fix the issue??

Thanks!

I also have this issue. I thought it could ave been my strut bearings or tie rod ends, or even a ball joint but I've checked everything and can't seem to figure it out.... Someone help us!

The shop I go to placed my vehicle on a lift where all 4 wheels were loaded. I then turned the steering wheel to the left a right a few times and they said the pop sound was definitely coming from the steering gear box, which is our Magnasteer system. I sent them the bulletin which described the Boot issue, where the boot gets clipped by some part. They said it was not that. I even got undernearth and heard it come directly from the gear box. The labor is only about $150 to replace, but the part could cost near $400. I need to check and see on Monsterparts.

Anyone know a part number??

Since they have to take the tie rods off anyways, I may have them replaced as well. !!

Anything else I should replace while this will be done?
